Hydrolyse 1.1 processes self-made field and home studio recordings that are exclusively related to water. Hydrophones, contact microphones, and condenser microphones were used for this purpose.
The core of the composition is a " Hydrochorus " consisting of 70 layers, which originated from a field recording of a carinthian mountain stream using a hydrophone. The individual layers were shifted in small increments to automatically create continuously changing delay patterns and tonal variations. Throughout the process, the base material of the stream recording is modulated and rearranged using frequency and pitch shifters. Additionally, rhythms are created by water droplets in the bathtub and by striking a glass bowl floating in water.

The second part of the piece is a conceptual derivation of Alvin Lucier's "I am sitting in a Room," renamed as "I am routing through an aquarium" in this context. The previously composed section starting at 3:00 is played six times through an aquarium in a feedback loop. For this purpose, two speakers were positioned on the short sides of the 80x60x30cm aquarium, and a wooden board with a screwed-in transducer was submerged in the water. Two pickup-microphones were attached to the glass walls.
Two hydrophones were suspended in the water to capture the composition's sound from within. The recorded material was then reintroduced into the aquarium.
