Yeshuruwn as he is now known grew up in England 

and was raised in the typical West Indian Family of the day. 

His parents, migrants from Jamaica had 8 children in all and 

in keeping with so many West Indian families of the day were 

ardent church goers.This meant that Yeshuruwn like so 

many children born to immigrants who sought solace and 

comfort in the church, would spend many hours enduring 

lengthy church sermons.
Yeshuruwn will pay testimony in his music to those

 early years when black churches up and down 

the country enjoyed the joyous soul stirring sound that is Gospel.

However growing up in 70s England for young black men 

born to immigrant parents was no strole in the park. 

New SuS laws and inner city riots symbolized the black 

existence for typical young black man growing up in England.

Yeshuruwn like his forbears before him and like so many of his peers of the day turned to music and in particular reggae music.The difference now was the lyrics 

offered another option to the passive resistance of gospel and were more relevant to the circumstances of the day. It is for that reason it is no surprise that 

Yeshuruwn own spiritual journey has compelled him to uphold the tradition of using music to speak to his people.  On top of his early musical influences Yeshuruwn 

has travelled Africa extensively including Israel. It is his Hebrew understanding that influences his lyrics. I think he will admit he is more of a lyricist than a musician 

and this is borne of his early love for poetry. Some of Yeshuruwns lyrics have their roots in unfinished poems written many years ago.  That said it is fair to say his 

message is as relevant today as it has ever been. I think he's worth a listen. He has something to say.......
