Exceeding 30 million Spotify streams as a session bassist for the likes of Yazmin Lacey, Oscar Jerome and Obongjayar, Marla now has 5 brilliant global dance floor tracks rolling out in her own right. All That We Have EP

Marla Kether’s outstanding debut EP 'All That We Have' (2023) finally lands on vinyl, alongside brand new remixes by Ikonika, Gina Jeanz, Fiyahdred, Rose Holland, and Coco Em.

The original tracks combine influences as far-reaching as syncopated Congolese soukous, Candomblé rhythms from the Afro-diasporic region of Brazil, and modern UK jazz. The new remixes uplift with elements of UK Funky, Afro House, Electronica, and Deep House. It’s a mesmerising fusion that transcends cultural boundaries, as Kether showcases a deep-rooted connection to the diverse sounds and styles that are distilled within her craft. 

“I chose each producer because I’m a huge fan of their work," Marla shares. "I attended Saffron’s online workshops hosted by Gina, Fiyah, Ikonika, and Coco Em. Rose was the FOH engineer at my first showcase gig, so it really feels like the record reflects my growth — and the people who’ve shaped it.”

Harriet Robinson of the Bristol Music Show invited me to do a 15-minute mix and it aired on BCfm yesterday evening! I wanted to dedicate it to the LEGENDARY DJ, producer and creator of ‘ballroom beatz’ Vjuan Allure, who sadly passed away recently.

Following on from her popular remixes for Samantha Lindo and All Day Breakfast Cafe, Marla Kether continues to showcase her remarkable versatility and ability to reinterpret music in a variety of musical genres with her remix of ‘Fire’, the debut single from London trio INTERVENTION. Known for her West African- and Brazilian-inspired House tracks, Marla delves into the world of UK Garage to deliver this fierce, thumping, dancefloor-filler.

‘Fire’ masterfully captures the essence of the element’s raw power and transformational energy. The song reflects on the internal fire within each of us - the innate drive to uplift our spirits, overcome obstacles and emerge stronger than before. It delves into the primal urge to burn away the old, making room for new growth and resilience. ‘Fire’ serves as a symbolic anthem for personal reinvention and the courage it takes to embrace change.

She’s been taking her high-energy sets around the world to Glastonbury, supporting Loyle Carner on his US tour. The diverse selections feature a bass-led blend of Kuduro, Dembow, Afro House and Global Bass. Lets catch up…

Recently I’ve been playing a bunch of really great shows with my band, and working on a few remixes that’ll be out this summer. I’ve also been enjoying a (slight) lull in my tour schedule which has meant more time with friends!

Last Friday, I DJed at Outra Cena in Lisbon for a Numa High party. The Tascam recording is being mastered at the moment so—just for you—I’ve re-recorded part of my set, from the comfort of my lovely bedroom.

The party was a celebration of people and music from the African diaspora, so I featured a lot of Batida, Kuduro, Baile Funk and Afro House. Just serving up my usual mix of global dance sounds really—giving people a taste of what to expect at my upcoming shows, as well as showing off tunes I heard during my trip to Brazil earlier this year.

I’ve got 2 remixes and a track on Somewhere Soul’s new compilation coming out in June-July; a heap of live bookings, including Cross The Tracks, The Great Escape and SXSW London; and I’ll be DJing at Glasto, We Out Here, Outlook and Little Simz’s Meltdown Festival to name a few!
