The Tragedy Of War

Here’s tonight’s one-take performance of the famous (and oh-so-difficult) Moonlight Sonata—1st part. This is a reimagined, slightly chaotic “mumbo jumbo” rendition. Pointless? Maybe. Useless? Perhaps. But if I can make someone smile or evoke any emotion whatsoever, I’m more than happy.

I’m truly excited to have performed this for you.

After playing it through more than 4 or 5 times tonight (and battling some technical difficulties—still a rookie with my new setup!), I’ll soon record a straightforward version for you as well.

I hadn’t played this piece in at least 20 years, and I’m pretty sure I never performed it in any recital or concert... not that I can remember anyway.

So here it is, raw and unpolished—just me, the music, and the moment. I hope you enjoy!

I wish I would have thought of saying the following about me, but it was Robert Fripp, and he seems to have had himself in mind: “Music so wishes to be heard that it sometimes calls on unlikely characters to give it voice.”

Oh, and you might wonder why I call my sketches "meta-music". Well, since I am always inspired by others,  I think of my improvisations as music *about other music*, thus meta-music.
