Diopter, the musical project of Charleston-based artist Mike Morabito, delivers a dynamic fusion of alternative rock with atmospheric textures and introspective storytelling. As a multi-instrumentalist and producer, he crafts layered compositions featuring high-gain guitars, immersive soundscapes, and compelling vocals exploring personal evolution and human connection themes. Currently focusing on his musical journey after a successful career in optometry, Diopter performs all instruments except drums, bringing a perfectionist's attention to detail to every aspect of his creative process. His debut album "Dream State" established his signature blend of dreamy atmospheres and driving rock. At the same time, his latest release "Undeniable Truth" pushes boundaries with harder-hitting arrangements and deeper lyrical themes.

Based on collaborative song writing in the early 80s and a few studio projects over the years. We are reunited to create new projects after taken a longer break.

Update:
In the summer of 2022, my dear old friend Mick and longtime musical companion died of cancer.

I have agreed with him that I will continue to run our site in his spirit. Our amazing, unique music will live on forever.

(Started making experimental music in ‘81 at 18 years old with circuit bent devices. 
Did some underground tape trading. Also made field recordings when working in a steel mill at night. (Lost all cassettes from that era.) Domestic life halted almost all artistic endeavours for many years. Along came 2013, and my world and technology had changed drastically. I started back into music using an iPhone and various technological detritus. I had shifted from lo-fi analog, to lo-fi digital. This is where I am still at nowadays. I can create unique experimental music, and yet still be satisfied with the outcome. I truly enjoy working with minimal equipment allowing me to be challenged by the limitations. (Inability is often the mother of restriction, and restriction is the great mother of inventive performance. - Holger Czukay) Even my visual art has gone from analog (painting, drawing) to digital collage. I don’t use AI and even though I think it will one day have it’s place in the art world, it just doesn’t align with my personal principles. Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Evandro B. Lira, also known as “Vintage Mutation”, has been a musical explorer since he was nine years old, when he started his first music studies.
In 1990, he became a trombone player, participating in “jam session” meetings and joining with some gospels orchestras. In 1996 he began his studies in synthesizer keyboards, suffering the influence of the electric guitar since 1998, when he started composing his first songs.
Active researcher on the relationship between music and mysticism, revives his experiences since 2016, expanding his sounds from synthesizers and guitars, in order to rescue all the classic and “vintage” atmosphere, for consequent transmutation into contemporary tendencies.

ZARINE (Dj Zarine) is one of the drum & bass DJs and producers whose work has brought considerable popularity to this style.
Starting his career in 97, he started promoting the Jump Up style in Russia. This always positive and open person still carries the culture of broken rhythms to the masses.

He received a classical music education. He studied conducting. He also plays guitar (played death metal, hardcore, techno death, was a session guitarist.) Sound engineer, worked with many well-known musicians, both foreign (Henry Rollins Band, Young Gods, Braut schlägt im Auge), and Russian, such as: the King and the Jester, Bricks, Torba-na-Kruche, Nom, TV, Calibri, Two Planes, Brigade row, Spitfire, and others.

His creative pseudonym, the female name ZARINE, owes his love for decadence, and the eponymous name of one of his projects-ZARINE (sarin) with the crossed-out letter " E " at the end. In 1996, after playing his first ever set at the CLEO club, he decided to keep the name.

The first single, "DnB Wize", was recorded in 1999 and released as a compilation album on a no-longer-existing foreign label. This was followed by releases - "Drunk n Bass" and "Art Core", "Eazy Drums" - released on the now-defunct KDK records 

Later there were releases on "Dj Parade", "World of the Drum n bass" - Dj SS took the single "GO ON" recorded together with Liza K. Audio design of the magazine "SPB. RU". Release of the album "Leading the rats". Working with Goldie, Aphrodite.

To date, singles have been released on Italian, French, German, and English labels.
