Kiss My Past!

On We Don’t Live There, The Fremonts weave midwestern ghost stories into restless Americana music. Stephanie Dodd (originally from Fremont NE -  vocals / keyboard / xylophone / accordion) and Justin Badger (originally from Fremont CA - vocals/guitar/kickdrum) lace their sound with bluegrass, country, blues, folk and indie pop influences. By blending Dodd’s lyrical voice and Badger’s turbulent style, they take on a range of topics from sprawling tales of escape and ambition to quiet disenchantment with traditional roles in American family life. Many of these songs were written in NYC as part of theatrical collaborations. The album was originally recorded in 2017 in a fancy studio in Boulder CO with a full band, strings and a choir. The Fremonts rereleased this album in 2025 with updated vocals and the original instrumental tracks.

Inspired by the ongoing fight at Universal Ostrich Farms, where ~330 ostriches stand strong against a cull order amid the H5N1 outbreak. With lyrics echoing the farmers’ defiance, the Supreme Court’s interim stay, and protestors’ hay bale barricades, this song asks: What does freedom mean to you? Penned with fire and hope, set to an original melody—perfect for rallying the cause.

You Ain’t My Boss is Linley Creek’s rowdy barroom anthem — a country-rock singalong that celebrates standing tall when people think they can run your life. With stomping guitars, honky-tonk piano trading licks with electric guitar, and a fiddle that kicks the whole thing off, this track blends humor, pride, and Friday-night swagger. The chorus — “YOU AIN’T MY BOSS!” — was made for shouting along with a cold beer in hand.

This is a working-class toast to respect, independence, and a little rebellion — the sound of a barn door wide open and a crowd clapping in time.
