Today we host a stellar premiere from one of the most illustrious producers within the electro scene, Controlled Weirdness. The South London bass merchant arrives on the coveted imprint, Cultivated Electronics with a four track EP that screams vintage electro.

Controlled Weirdness has remained somewhat in the shadow’s of the electro scene, known best for his monthly radio show on Threads, his Presence Unknown label and Electric Sweat events. The DJ and producer is very much intwined in the London scene, yet remains to some degree on the fringes, making the EP name In The Shadows impeccably fitting.

The Londoner has been rocking the decks and perfecting his craft since the mid-’80s when as a youngster, Electro and early ’80s pirate radio started his obsession with electronic music and he played his first gig at “The House of Dolls” in Farringdon where he soon became resident. After a stint in New York from 1989 he met Joel Bevacqua aka DJ Deadly Buda, who after returning to his hometown of Pittsburgh invited Neil (Controlled Weirdness) to play at the first ever rave there in 1991, leading to a 6-month stint of events.

Upon Neil’s return to London in 1992 he started a radio show on pirate station Chillin FM alongside his sister, Stacey (later known as NoYeahNo). Many more events followed until in 1996 and then he formed Unearthly Records. Since then, he has played worldwide from plush clubs to dirty warehouses and has appeared on a variety of labels including Audio Illusion, Control Tower, Praxis, Zhark, Dirty Needles, Fdb and Still Raven.

As Controlled Weirdness arrives on sister label of Cultivated Electronics, Cultivated Electronics LTD which specifies in vinyl only releases he brings with a quartet of prime electro cuts. The four track EP is ripe with tough electro rhythms, timeless acid lines and earthy soundscapes.

Corona Acid does exactly what it says on the tin. A rolling acid soaked club tool that simmers through unwavering 303 lines and heavy 808 bass drums. This is the perfect track to set the tone for the club, or on the other hand wind it down. Top shelf electronic music, from an unsung hero of electro.

It's an elegant selection of tracks produced between 2018 and 2023, some of them recovered from long-lost hard drives and carefully remixed with the help of T I N's keen ears.

An always-present groove, magnetic synth-scapes, and saturated ambiance set the pace throughout the EP while the warm and fuzzy sound makes for timeless joy, blending throbbing techno with deep house and dubby nuances, giving every beat a distinct texture.

Here comes the fourth release by Almería-based electronica artist Mynationshit titled ‘The Tycoon’. This is another addition to the independent label ‘Waste Editions’, run by Mynationshit’s frontman Carlos Martín along with his brother Ale. 

This record highlights Martin’s latest musical touches. Its melancholic undertones juxtaposed with humble romanticism will inspire you. Indubitably, this Spanish artist’s distinguishable nature mixes 
elements of Electro, Dark Wave, Synth-Pop and Post-Punk. 

Picture Johnny Cash and Peter Murphy singing catchy tunes to each other while on a cosmic journey to an unknown planet where synths and prose accompany their melodies.

Sed Blava is the Barcelona-based solo project of Daniel Boix, well known as Dj.Simplexia or also Ciutat Solitud, his ambient-industrial project. “Nit Sublim” is his first album as producer and without a doubt, this release is a mind-blowing and genuine composition which at first listen, may evoke the dark sounds from Valencia in the 80's. But if you dive deeper, you will uncover a trove of intricate details elaborated with Sed’s touch. Ranging from catchy tunes and emotive passages to powerful dance-floor tracks, his vast music background and his long-time membership to the underground music scene should be highlighted. Both of these elements give rise to a broad spectrum of genres and influences in his music, bringing together a timeless mixture of old-school Electronic Body Music, New-Beat, Electro, Synth-Wave and even Ambient.

Sed Blava - Nit sublim[Preview] W09

Yssue - Moscow based composer, DJ, and also a part of the multidisciplinary community called Esthetic Joys. Lately Yssue has been marked with the pretty diverse releases on Y.E.S. and KUMP. His music can be described as a twisted bass-heavy hybrid with a punkish attitude, constant rhythmical juggling and a pinch of the intimate melodies in-between.

Upcoming release on Private Persons contains some of the old and freshly made tracks, which are lined up in a sequential sonic journey. EP starts with an industrial slow-burner “Procrastinator”, then gradually rising pressure and evolving into some distorted breaks thought the middle and finally hits the last “Clockwork Crow”, where the musical canvas is almost falling apart at the very ending. The thing you’ll probably notice is that despite the genre differences those 4 tracks are forming the consistent and solid piece together.
