Nathalie Duchene is the new entry on the Toy Tonics rooster. Upcoming DJ and producer talent from Paris with prominent protégées: Yuksek and Boombass of Cassius are the ones who helped her to get introduced to the French scene and to shape the skills as DJ and producer of her own music. Since she came to Paris from Belgium in 2008 at the age of 19 it were these two encouraging her to make music. And by now, after observing the good artists and developing a real obsession (not only) for club music she became a steady member of the new Parisian house scene. She regularly plays in the main Parisian clubs such as the Rex, Silencio and Sacre. And being known for excellent DJ and selector skills able to create deep and colorful musical atmospheres, she also gets often invited to play happenings of brands like Louis Vuitton, Numero Magazine or the off - parties at Cannes Film Festival. 

In fact by now Nathalie has strong connections not only in the growing new French house scene but also to the French movie world. Since living in Paris she wrote a few pieces of music for movies  (and fashion shows) and it looks like there will be more engagements in the future. Nathalie’s music production skills are impressing.

Now, after DJing for a couple of years, spending endless hours in the studio to learn - Nathalie is ready for her own dancefloor EP.  Three sunny electronic tracks, disco, Balearic house vibes that avoid cliches, instead play with atmospheres and vibes that feel familiar and catch you quickly, without being too direct.

It makes total sense to release these on Toy Tonics. Not just because France is one of the countries with the biggest Toy Tonics fanbase, but also because Cassius and Yuksek have always been „heroes“ to the TT crew. It all makes sense. Nathalie Duchene’s first EP „Praia“ is out on march 11th including remixes by Yuksek, Boombass and Carl Chaste.

Toy Tonics comes up with a new house record by an artist by FIMIANI aka BPlan. DJ and producer from Napoli / Italia that has already been doing edits of extremely rare Italian disco tracks since three years on his own imprint Caffè Corretto. 
FIMIANI’s “Amore Latino“ EP is his debut as a producer, is all played live, no samples and consist of 4 house tracks that remind the early 1990ies New York house sound of Masters at Work, François Kevorkian or legendary Body & Soul club. Based on rolling funk grooves using a lot of jazzy piano chords, organs, real bass players and horns. This stuff is super musically and listenable also at home.
FIMIANI who comes from the region of Napoli, (or better the beautiful island of Ischia) is not only an edit maestro and skilled producer, but organized a summer house festival. He knows the history and is deeply inspired by the Italian house scene from the mid 1980ies/ 1990ies. 
People who know the history of dance music will be aware that the house is an Italo-Amercacn „invention“. Italians not only created the music called Italo disco, that was the big inspiration for many (American) dance music producers of the 1980ies and 90ies. The Italians also created the blueprint for what later became House music.
The original house music producers in Chicago always told the story of how they were impressed by the Italian sounds from 1981 - 1986. HOT MIX 5, the DJs that basically started the house genre and the term “house music” were playing the early Italian electronic dance records and got inspired by them for doing their own music later. Kano’s “It’s a War” or “Dirty Talk” and “MBO Theme” from Klein & MBO, “I Need Love” from Capricorn, “Love-N-Music” from Ris, “Dance Forever” from Gaucho and many other Italian records from the early 1980ies made their way to Chicago (and New York) and were one of the reasons the Chicago DJ to start to produce their own first electronic dance music, as they told this themselves in many interviews. The American DJs bought the same early electronic machines and were inspired by these Italian records. These mid 1980ies early Chicago productions then were played at the Warehouse club and ended up being called House Music.
That sound later influenced many New York producers of the 1990ies and also many Italian producers who, in the 1990ies created their own versions of the Chicago genre and called it “Italo-House”. This strong connection between Italo house and American house can be also seen in the fact that many American house DJs found a second home in Italy where house music became sort of mainstream in the late 1980 and 1990ies. 
Thanks to national-wide radios like Radio DEEJAY who were turning club hits into mainstream anthems, and thanks to party promoters like Angels of Love in Napoli or the Italian pioneers of the House parties in Rimini & Riccione Like Vae Victis, Echoes and the party Magic Monday, where American house producers found a second home. DJs like David Morales were living in Italy and artists like Tony Humphries or Masters at Work played at national radio and had hit singles in Italy - while still being underground in other European countries.
House is an Italo-American affair, and Fimiani is a late example of this perfect union.

Reversible Perspective (Marco Grandi Rmx) [Superordinate Dub Waves]

A long-standing production duo, Dan Stark and Sertac Sahin have been producing music under their Stark & Sahin moniker for almost a decade. Talented artists in their own rights, the duo have been responsible for a string of releases for the likes of Go Deeva, Where The Heart Is, Low Pressings and Witty Tunes. A single remix for Particles saw the duo rework Oliver Lieb's "Caldera" in 2016 as they now return with their debut original EP for the label in "1984". The aptly named title track has a sense of foreboding as a gently pulsing bassline pattern, heavy beat and crisp snare form the basis for an electronic drum kit rhythm, de rigeur for the era. A retro synth sound and dark melody shine outwards from the rhythmic foundation as it then drops into a broken beat variation at the breakdown. Picking up the pace once more in the third movement, familiar melodies are heard as the classic synthwave vibe extends further. 

Partner track, "Fearless" continues the strong retro vibe as a strong beat and ticking 16th hi-hat pattern form the foundation for a grooved bassline sequence to shine. Before long a swathe of classic sounds emanate from the rhythmic collage, revealed fully at the beatless breakdown as a monophonic lead and cadenced pluck add vibrant dancefloor character to proceedings in the second half.

An artist at the forefront of Progressive House for over 15 years, Juan Deminicis is a name synonymous with the genre. Over 400 production credits are testament to that production success with a half-century of those on Proton labels – the likes of the "Life on the Moon", "Synchronicity" and "Cycles" original EPs on Proton Music and a host of remix editions shining an alternative light on Particles. Remixes of Mariner + Domingo and Blanka Barbara in early 2021 showcased the Argentinean's production talent further while a third now sees Juan Deminicis create a thoroughly modern progressive gem out of "Fearless". Using the melodic foundations of the original as a jumping-off point, Juan's skill is to cast those characters in a new light that retains the kernel of their retro sound while transforming them into a seething dancefloor jewel. A growling bassline backdrop adds dark intensity while original melodies combine with new and vibrant phrases in a trademark production style that illustrates perfectly why the Buenos Aires resident's sound is still such a sought-after commodity. A driving beat and syncopated hi-hat pattern add to the dancefloor groove in a work of rare skill and poise.

A dystopian vision of the future is the antithesis of Stark & Sahin's bright and vibrant "1984", aided superbly by a remix from Juan Deminicis.
