EXCLUSIVE: TOBI - (un)Real Love (Nightmare Mix)

22 Recordings, a Barcelona-based label run by Marine Damico and Cruz Orozco, readies its second release, a V/A - 22247 - consisting  out of four tracks moving back and forth within the deeper and minimalistic House cosmos. The EP kickstarts with Argentinian producer and Nila's Quest collective member TOBI, who contributes some (un)Real Love to the musical conglomerate. However, the artist's track comes in a Nightmare Mix and therefore explores musical darker territories or the more melancholic side of it. Consequently (un)Real Love (Nightmare Mix) is based upon a melo-synth-line, which in the course of the track culminates in a nightmare-ish the-clock-strikes-twelve-sequence and Ghost Hour heralds. In the last part of the track initially introduced synth-line is picked upon again as if nothing had happened before. Altogether TOBI delivers a highly infectious spooky take, which addresses and messes with one's mind on the floor. Pure bliss and certainly a strong and considerate way to start the EP.

Manchester-based Aiden Francis is at the forefront of the current prog house sound. 'Circuit Kween' is a punch one to start the harks back to classic Sasha & Digweed, 'Kompackt' hits its stride with an urgent low end and snappy finger clicks, 'Twizted' has a warped baseline and dark energy and 'Hex Klub' shuts down with more zoned out and trance infused feels with plenty of colour.

Pursuing their duty to bring new melodies from outer space back to our planet, Shin’uchū’s third satellite Shinsei finally lifts-off into orbit. To complete this mission, the astronaut Man/ipulate shares six various interpretations of his deeply-rooted discoveries on his mission to the outer spheres of the Milky Way. ‘Shinsei’ – meaning new birth – immerses the mind in a slow and distant mantra progressing onto an unexpected atomic explosion, kicking off the EP with a bang. Next comes ‘Do It’, a high energy upbeat bass-filled retro groove taking us back to the future, followed by ‘Sex Is Fun’, a true obscure warehouse rave essential.

On the flipside, ‘Science Function’ brings out the best flavours of house, with a hint of the unknown driven by an extra-terrestrial aura. ‘Insidynamic’ appears next, adding an electrifying collusion to the piece – a truly enchanting symphony perfectly balanced between light and dark. Completing the release is ’22 Tensions’, a total must have closing track filled with a nostalgic twist of landing back on Earth after a memorable space-filled experience, marking the success of Shinsei’s operation in the outer spheres.
