For many in underground music, the words Back To Basics mean only one thing - the chaotic and anarchic Leeds house party founded by Dave Beer. The GLBDOM label is slowly broadening out that definition though with this ongoing series under the same name. It's been good to date and this third volume doesn't disappoint with Manuold, Bress Underground, MacLO duo, Jon Billick and Scruscru all offering up their own takes on deep house. From the mid-tempo and cosmic to the more raw and punchy, via the loopy and the future-facing, it's a classy collection.

The debut release on brand new label Shadow Pressings hits the ground running with 4 heavyweight club tracks that doff the cap to the halcyon days of Chicago house music. Opening track The Messiah takes the maestro Lil Louis blueprint with sampled sax licks and punchy synth stabs accompanying the raw, minimal house groove. It Started In Chicago heads in a more jacking direction with a snaking bassline, muscular drum groove, cut up vocal and sax hits.

Michael Cignarale is an iconic new young legend of the queer underground: co-founder and resident DJ at Medusa (one of China's longest-running queer parties and record labels), creative director at Shanghai-based queer design studio WAVE, and shapeshifting vocalist known for their glitter-drenched visage and underground club hits like 2021's “She Takes Me Over”. Gome are a Hamburg-based duo known for their releases on Toy Tonics, their unique take on '90s-influenced house, and the musicianship of their all-hardware live sets.Together, Michael Cignarale & gome have turned in two epic house bangers — chuggy, jackin', future anthems anchored by rugged Chicago-inspired percussion and Michael's sultry vocals. Rounding out the pack is a fierce tribal house remix of “These Eyes”, and a pounding “Feel Me” remix from Smartbar resident Ariel Zetina!
