Can't Do Without You

A soundtrack for a contemporary theatre fairy tale, recounting the lively adventures of a mischievous girl and her devoted robot companion. In a quest to elevate the synergies of this dynamic duo, I blended precise electronic melodies with the whimsical charm of an off-key "bad flute" concept.

The track 'Marshmellow' sets the tone for a funny feeding scene... with marshmallows, of course.

ORIGINAL Citation (Oct 2014): Rosetta’s Plasma Consortium (RPC) has uncovered a mysterious ‘song’ that Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko is singing into space. The comet seems to be emitting a ‘song’ in the form of oscillations in the magnetic field in the comet’s environment. It is being sung at 40-50 millihertz, far below human hearing, which typically picks up sound between 20 Hz and 20 kHz. To make the music audible to the human ear, the frequencies have been increased in this recording. I'm often asked in interviews what my early influences were.
If I could have made a mixtape years ago like the ones I've been making more recently, then it would probably have sounded something like this.
71 tracks in 75 minutes, with mashups of up to 4 or 5 tracks playing at the same time.
Features many legendary artists of the time, from DJ Shadow, Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada and Orbital through to Portishead, Luke Vibert, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Shy FX & UK Apachi, Bonobo, 4hero, Adam F, Amon Tobin, Chemical Brothers, Red Snapper and Aquasky - with some Classical, Folk and Choral music, and Moondog, The Beta Band, Donovan, Jive Bunny, Velvet Underground, Herb Alpert and classic jungle thrown in.
Apart from appearances from Brian Eno and Derren Brown, this mixtape doesn't feature interviews and field recordings like the other mixtapes in the annual series, but it does still feature acapellas from J-Live, KRS-One, Common, Roots Manuva, Choclair and more.
