To celebrate 20 years of building Labyrinths, we have decided to release one set from each of the last ten years. I've chosen ten timeless moments that both document the history of the event and provide a historical snapshot of underground electronic music over the past ten years.

We have chosen a broad range--from closing techno sets, to morning ambient sets, to experimental sets to close the night. Each set represents a different side of the event. Taken together, they present a portrait of a decade of music.

The Labyrinthの20周年を記念して、過去10年間を振り返り、それぞれの年からひとつのミックスをピックアップすることにしました。イベントの歴史を記録すると同時に、過去10年間のアンダーグラウンドエレクトロニックミュージックの歴史的なスナップショットを提供します。今聞いても色褪せない、タイムレスな極上のミックスをお楽しみください。

テクノのクロージングセットから、朝のアンビエントセット、そして夜を締めくくるエクスペリメンタルセットまで幅広いセレクトですが、どのセットもThe Labyrinthの欠かせない側面を表しており、ここ10年におけるエレクトロニック ミュージックの全容とも言えるでしょう。

Sybil at Floresta - Waking Life '23

Vardae is a project with the ambition of breaking away from the genre barrier, to explore new sounds territory around the love of psychedelic music. His productions and performances result in a percussive and hypnotic sound, a combination of tribal rhythms, repetitive leads and atmospheric textures which navigates from dub to tribe, passing through techno and drum’n’bass. Vardae defends a universe where immersion and experience prevail over codes with the idea of offering a journey to each of its appearances.

For MNMT 396 Konduku presents a mix of lucid techno experiments, full of new and unreleased heat delivered in curious time signatures, with a deep rhythmic pulse.

His releases have seen him majoring for the likes of Nous’klaer - a label he’s most commonly associated with - to releases with Delsin’s Mantis Series, DJ Nobu’s Bitta label, and his celebrated Parlama EP for Spazio Disponibile - Konduku delivers an undeniable sonic pattern of uptempo, liquid and polyrhythmic groove.

For MNMT 402 we welcome London based artist, Sybil with a mystical two hour voyage spanning the deepest depths of techno and beyond, stitched together from a broad palette of textures, ambiance and psychedelia. 

About the mix Sybil said:

“For this mix I wanted to capture the icy freshness of January, a month filled with new energy, bright skies, and winter’s introspection. Inspired by a trip in the mountains: cold alpine air, glittering snow, and vast expanses of rock nestled amongst forests of pine trees. I also wanted to bring the sonic feeling of my Deep Mind Music (https://soundcloud.com/deep-mind-music) mixes into a techno format. A mix for daytime deepness, spiralling upwards on a shimmering journey through the sky.”

We are deeply excited to share Donato and Marco’s grand finale for the last edition of Terraforma at Villa Arconati. With great humbleness, these two masters and dear friends have carefully broadened and lulled, record after record, an intimate space of trust, exchange and deep-time connection. 
 
Also, we’d like to add a fond memory that was shared with us a few days after:

“Dozzy and Shuttle’s finale unfolded like twilight. A prolonged dusk caressed by an eerie drizzle. Shadows and whispers echoing with the surroundings. Synapses slowly reaching the ground, merging and becoming one with the underground rhizomatic networks. A memorable rendez-Nous within a fractal space. It felt like being at the core center of the matrix, enveloped by a warmth reminiscent of a maternal womb. I found myself in a weightless suspension, envisioning the past, the present and the future, all together in a blink of an eye.”

We are fueled by gratitude for all this beauty.

Now in its 200th instalment, this Podcast has given voice to a diverse offering of global talents across the musical spectrum, from the democratic rhythms of zeitgeist appropriate techno and house through to more avant-garde synthwork.

This next guest has cast a large shadow over the technosphere, so large in fact, that no introduction could fully encompass the breadth of his achievements. But in brief: Ben Klock is a titan whose formative years were spent playing marathon mixes to the crowds at Berlin’s (then recently opened) Berghain. Off the back of his endurance sets and the club’s success he became a household name whose influence grew to be felt across the world, with a body of work that includes appearances at an exhaustive list of clubs and festivals, a number of hot releases on Ostgut Ton and an equally respected self-run label (Klockworks) to boot. On this second imprint, his own productions have repeatedly seen the light of day, alongside those from the likes of DVS1, Sterac, Stef Mendesidis and younger talents like Temudo and Vil & Cravo. The sound, ubiquitous as it is, will be familiar to anyone involved in the world of electronic music and there’s good reason for that: Klock’s deep and percussive work and ability to pull from a wide range of influences have earmarked him as a unique agent for the techno cause. Atmospheric and delivered with hammering force, Klock’s refined palette for rhythms is as relevant now as ever. The anticipation surrounding the forthcoming Mostra Festival is real, with only a few weeks remaining until music aficionados convene in the enchanting backdrop of Barcelona's Hangar and Castel De Montjuïc. In our ongoing collaboration with Mostra, we are thrilled to present the latest mix from an artist whose name resonates deeply within our community - Forest Drive West.

Recorded live at last year's ExtraMostra event at Lolita, where Forest Drive West shared the stage with Ana Sola & Estrato Aurora (whose set we also had the pleasure of hosting) and Mostra's own Josh Hoppen, this set epitomizes the artist's mastery cultivated over the past decade.

What unfolds in this recording is a pulsating amalgamation of tribal, bass, halftime, and techno, a signature style meticulously crafted by Forest Drive West ever since his debut EP, System in 2016. The auditory journey commences with an immediate liftoff, as infectious grooves propel the listener into an interstellar expedition akin to a spacecraft hurtling towards unexplored realms. Approximately 30 minutes into the set, Forest Drive West adeptly recalibrates the energy, initiating an exploration of novel, uncharted territories with a meticulously woven techno narrative. The seamless transition of grooves adds an element of intrigue, rendering the entire listening experience undeniably interesting.

Forest Drive West is poised to grace the illustrious "Pati" stage of the Castel De Montjuïc on the evening of Friday, March 29th—an occasion sure to be nothing short of magnificent.

NTS Radio: GIGI FM PRESENTS VOICES FROM THE LAKE MARCH 2024

Repping an oft overlooked Swiss techno contingent comes the next guest in Bassiani’s podcast series. Basel born and raised Garçon is one of the most promising names to call the bucolic town on the shores of the Rhine his home. He got an early start, mixing from the age of 14 and booked a mere two years later, assiduously cobbling together influences in his early work and soon delivering performances city-wide. First those at Hinterhof (now closed) and then those at local staple Elysia. With musical collaborator Agonis he’s also fired up techno label Amenthia Recordings, an agar dish for like-minded Basel music makers. His own sonic experiments are a purely live affair, and that’s no bad thing. Garçon’s escapades, from Waking Life to Barcelona’s Parallel have honed his voice and made of him an adept hand when faced with the strenuous demands of modulating crowd energy. Nodding to a range of influences across the electronic map he harbours a superlative talent for finding niche sounds at the fringes of common scope. Enter Podcast 208: towering, no-bullshit sounds, an hour of ghostly, mechanical whispers and powerful basslines, earth-shaking and infinitesimally precise techno from this connoisseur selector.

Jacopo Severitano, also known as Severja, is an Italian multi-disciplinary artist, DJ, and the visionary behind Midgar Records. 

Now based in Berlin, Severja has spent the past decade curating Midgar Records, shaping its distinct and aesthetically captivating identity. As a label owner he has ensured a sound aesthetic that defies genre categorization, but maintains a common thread of quality. With a diverse roster of artists including Agonis, Aa Sudd, Wata Igarashi, Tammo Hesselink, Polygonia, Forest Drive West, Ruff Cherry, and Keplrr to name a few, Midgar Records continually pushes the boundaries of electronic music, offering listeners an immersive and innovative auditory experience.

Severja’s versatile approach to DJing spans a broad spectrum of electronic music genres, including ambient, techno, drum and bass, experimental music, trance, and house to name a few. Severja is one of those artists that have full control of both the mental and physical realms when performing, and ensures to always surprise with a creative and challenging selection. 

In his podcast for Nachtblumen, Severja delves into his techno collection, presenting dubby cuts, rolling loopy rhythms, and layered textures that showcase his eclectic taste and deep understanding of music and sound. We sat down for an in depth conversation to discuss Jacopo's artistic profile, inspirations and Midgar and the past 10 years of curating the label and contributing to the electronic music scene.
