We want to celebrate the one and only legendary Fela Kuti.
He passed away on August 2, 1997, but his legacy lives on through his music, Fela Kuti’s legacy lives on through Afrobeat, the revolutionary fusion of African rhythms, jazz, funk, and soul that he created in the late 1960s and 1970s.
It blends traditional African rhythms with Western musical styles like funk, jazz, highlife, and psychedelic rock — creating a sound that is rhythmic, hypnotic, and deeply political.
