Spikey Lee is an Amsterdam based Dutch queer artist, making a name for himself in the underground queer techno scene. His fun and groovy style of techno makes for some serious sweaty dancefloor vibes and his at times unexpected track selection keeps his audiences guessing. He strongly believes in making the scene a better and safer place for people and wants everyone involved to feel free and express themselves. Although being excluded himself for years he is well aware of his privileges and now uses his position to make the scene more diverse and inclusive.

This week on the Ismcast we have Caniche.

Before having played in major cities like London, Vienna and Berlin, where she resides today, Caniche developed her penchant for hard but groovy Techno early on. From her very first set in 2018, Caniche’s unique style has always been characterized by combining Tribal Techno and Hardgroove with full-on Schranz. Mesmerizing old school percussion and drums constitute the main element of her mixes. 

While still in the process of developing her own sound as a producer, her recent tracks head in a similar direction, with a first release on Twice Infinity's sub label Groovecore United coming out in January 2023. 

As co-founder and resident of Vienna’s Female DJ Network - PUSH, Caniche fiercely fights for more visibility and equal treatment of FLINTA artists in the harder Techno scene. The network structure aims to connect and be a source of new approaches, mutual support, and inspiration for like minded DJs across Europe.

Specific Objects is a Berlin-based DJ, producer and owner of Twice Infinity Records. Before moving to the world’s techno capital, he earned his stripes in his hometown of Vienna as a resident DJ of the infamous Meat Market event series and crew member of Wiener Gerüstbau.

The photographer-turned-musician is a man on a mission: pursuing his goal of bringing back the groove into hard and fast techno has led to several releases on labels like Akronym, Mitsubasa, Introspective or DREPT. When on stage, he effortlessly combines contemporary funky cuts with his favorite tunes from the early 2000s in a blend that‘s both modern and old school, always keeping drive and energy on the floor without residing to cheap tricks.

Their music is created by combining modular synthesizers with analog & digital sounds in addition to field recordings (including various techniques and knowledge that have been gained from jazz studies and opera singing).

London-based Alby Maz has recently jumped behind the decks after years spent partying in clubs and raves around Italy, Berlin, Amsterdam, and London. Inspired by the energy of queer spaces and wild forest parties, his sets feature hypnotic loops and sultry vocals, mixed with hard basses and dark, groovy rhythms. He has previously played for NADA and Mass Winter Rave, and he can often be found in the underground scene partying if he is not playing.

I am based in Berlin and born in Hamburg, where the experimental music scene shaped my perspective on sound. Also the classical background in piano put the focus in early age on selecting and playing music.
My emotional Techno journeys are seeking high energy levels in a playful way, with twists of Trance, Gabber and beyond. I feel most comfortable outside of the comfort zone!


 • What are your artistic influences apart from electronic music ? 
I am deeply rooted in the experimental/noise scene and also enjoy post punk, dark wave, old japanese pop, hardcore punk and ambient black metal. I also feel influenced by art in general and love to visit exhibitions and museums.
