* A MiniBomb is a a concept I've been playing with for the last year. Each MiniBomb is in the same key and tempo and is very short (i.e. not a complete song, just a build-up and drop). They're useful for making interesting DJ mixes where you simply alter the order of bombs to make new remixes. I've been working in the 6A key but I'd like to have MiniBombs for every key eventually. If you like this idea and want to get involved in building a MiniBomb library, get in touch. When we get enough, we can release a library of tiny tunes.

Spain's finest Colombo follows up his Big-Beat inspired 2012 album "Abandoned Factory" with "Station 21", our final release for 2013.

Colombo (Alejandro to his mum) takes us on a journey back to the early 2000s and it's burgeoning "nuskool breaks" scene, the sound that's become the breakbeat genre we know and love.  The album is a love letter to the sounds, the beats, and the vibe of the breaks scene's roots.

The album opens with title track "Station 21" with it's skippy beats and warped bassline, then elevates to higher, more club-friendly heights with the acid-fuelled "Bluish".  Colombo keeps a contemporary feel to the album too with the inclusion of "Sponging" and the dirty and driving "Drop It".

There's plenty of deeper cuts here too with the percussive, groove-laden "Four Strokes" and low-end heavy "Destruction".  Tracks like "Nu-skooling" and "Kinship" provide the more "nuskool" rollers here focussing on throbbing basslines and percussion, whilst "Induism" and "Takes The Physical" sounds like actual undiscovered classic gems from the early 2000s.

Big system tracks are well and truly present on the album too - anyone looking for something anthemic and ravey should head straight for "Come With Me" or "Classic Approach" for instant gratification via piano riffs, chopped up breakbeats and sirens galore.  

"What's Up" and "Foreplay" explores Electro while final track "Personal Belongings" keeps the bpms lower but the energy high with a 110bpm finale.

This album pays homage to all things breakbeat in all it's many facets, and there's as much here to please new lovers of the genre, whilst being evocative of "the good old days" to original breaks fans.

The prolific Manchester-based artist known as Robot Needs Oil has been found covertly recording downtempo, reggae, and hip hop fueled beats under the curious name of My Neighbour Is. His latest release for Cold Busted under this moniker, Ska-Kan-Ka, places his love of dub, reggae, and a solid skankin’ rhythm on display once again, much like his previous Metaphysical Juicer album on the label. There is a noticeable difference this time in that the songs have less dancehall and dub appeal, forgoing these reggae influences for a more strictly roots approach -- and even incorporating a slight balearic feel at times -- but still totally party rockin' in a ska-like fashion. Essentially this is island calypso meets American funk in a lighthearted blend … because it's done by a Brit, of course! It's just another day in the backyard of My Neighbour Is. He's blessed up his downtempo, hip hop breaks styling with an obvious level of respect and inspiration awarded towards the Jamaican sound.

Ill DJ Chris B is a native of Orlando Florida who produces and mixes breakbeat music. Having an opportunity to attend legendary dance clubs in Orlando during the early 90's, like The Edge, Firestone, Ultra Violet, Infinity (Cyber Zone), The Blue Room, Icon, Alpha Bar, Eli's Crib, Thee Grotto, and The Bank (Fusion), along with numerous other clubs in Orlando and throughout the United States, it is easy to see where he gets his influence of electronic music from. I decided to take a more techno inspired path for this one: maintaining a simple evolving bassline and shuffly percussion, but also adding in some wobbles and squelches for good measure. So for those of you that missed it, this set was recorded live on the Mercury Thames Cruiser at the Elite Force Boat Party in conjunction with Supatronix back in July 2010. The party was a huge, drunken success with a glorious sun-kissed evening on the Thames, a capacity boat and a FAT & thoroughly full-bodied soundtrack.

The set is a warts & all live recording (on two CDJ-800s ...ugh.... and a DJM-600 ...eek...) with idents added later, and also an additional TWO tracks added post-party to the end of the mix so it actually finishes as it was always intended to (the ship's captain cut us off 10 minutes early on the night).

It's the first live set I've put out as a Strongarm Sessions since back in the day, and the first official 'Sessions' of 2010.
