People often use the term ‘family’ these days, especially record labels; it’s a go to word that’s frequently over-used. But when it comes to Julian Wassermann & Raphael Mader it is highly appropriate as both are an important part of the Renaissance label roster with multiple releases to their names, ably demonstrating the future of house is in safe hands.

So, Renaissance were delighted when they got a call saying, “Guys, we’re teaming-up to start a new project devoted to electronica. Are you interested?” Their response was immediate to say the least, buoyed by the prospect of the label-family circle pulling tighter still... MODEM was born!

However, not satisfied with the strength of their burgeoning status, Julian and Raph decided to go a step further and invited heavyweight French production duo Betical to collaborate on what was to become ‘Marginal’, the first single taken from their forthcoming album, ‘Fahrenheit 52’.

'Marginal' was one of the first ideas we had,” explains Julian, “it’s a record full of wistful emotion and melancholy with that deep, dream-like quality that works so well with electronica.”

“We’ve both admired Betical for a long time,” Raph continues, “when they agreed to the collaboration we began by sending various sketches back and forth and they actually picked out ‘Marginal’”.

Betical then wasted no time in confirming their choice, “We immediately loved the track’s atmosphere and chord progression. We worked on a drum, added some melodies and a vocal and then kicked it back and forth until we all agreed it was over the finish line. We really enjoyed working with the guys and are proud of the final result!”

Nuno Dos Santos, the Portugal-born Dutch national has a cheeky charm about him that is difficult to escape and that works so well in his favor when taking control of the decks.

Whether it’s running his own label Something Happening Somewhere, producing music, or DJing, you can feel that Nuno is utterly in love with what he does. As an acclaimed, he has worked with artists like Patrice Baumel, Estroe and TJ Kong and has done so on labels like Compost, Planet E, Green Records, Traum and Connaisseur. His sound is created using his deep knowledge of music and veers from sublime techno to more emotional house as exemplified by classic tracks like ‘Merging’, ‘Hamming’ and ‘Mon Toy'.

As a DJ Nuno Dos Santos has headlined the most upbeat clubs around Europe and America, including residencies at Trouw and Club 11, Amsterdam, where his unique sense of musical storytelling have developed and bloomed over the years.

"Nōpi is a newborn producer project from Ukrania. Established in early 2019, Nōpi was able to score releases on significant labels and his continuous flow of giveaways has quickly gained him some recognition. We are happy to help the young talent on his rise to the top and showcase 2 groovy, melodic house tracks, supported by our dreamy family-members Yoni Yarchi and Daniel van der Zwaag.

Daynight is able to deliver a bouncy and energetic baseline groove, further enforced with tight shakers and warm percussions. Gentle piano chords and soothing vocals are layered upon the bases and build a coherent atmosphere, that is characterized by subtle textures and smartly placed pad-sweeps.

With peculiar tension, main title track "The Forest" opens up its intro. A collaborating space of fieldrecordings set the mood of this song, while patient piano melodies and a warm, low-end bassline push the production forward. Subtle chants and an array of pads, create a haunting atmosphere - An adventure of mystical soundscapes, that is reshaped by our NWS-dreamers Yoni Yarchi and Daniel van der Zwaag.

Yoni's remix immediately takes a brighter and life-affirming turn, by implementing an uprising & warm bassline, energetic percussions and a flourishing synth, that is playful and charming. Elevating pads and charismatic textures, give Yoni's take and innocent feel in the most positive way.

A beafy low-end and hypnotic rhythmics are the foundation of Daniel van der Zwaag's deeper approach. The symbiosis of the lonely piano with wide and open soundscapes, create the atmosphere of a lonely walk in the woods. The complementing layers of a pushing groove and an intimate top create an interesting feel, that keeps up the mystery of the original, fortifies it and reflects the story of a forsaken place.
