Its been 6 years since Danilo Plessow aka Motor City Drum Ensemble first emerged on the scene with his debut 12inch released on his own MCDE Recordings imprint.
Appropriately titled "Raw Cuts", the two tracks would start of a series of raw house jams Danilo made in his studio using old school samplers and drum machines,
a sound that at the time was far away from being status quo.
Having been heavily influenced by Soul, Jazz, House and Techno emerging from both the Motor City and beyond, Danilo found his signature sound - sample-based, raw,
emotional and mature tracks.
MCDE released two more "Raw Cuts" twelve inches in the coming years and it wouldn't be wrong to call them modern house classics - each of the records found support from all over the globe, from Moodymann to Gilles Peterson, and especially the last record of the series (Raw Cuts 5 & 6) was just everywhere in the year 2010.

What better way to end a concept series than to invite some people for remixing those tracks? People that inspired him to do this music in the first place:
Marcellus Pittman of 3 Chairs fame, Mike Huckaby, one of Detroit`s house heroes and synth nerd per excellence, plus lastly Recloose, whose unique approach to the Detroit sound has been a favorite of Danilo for years.

With a package this strong we will not bore you with more praise - just listen and enjoy.

Since its conception three years ago, the Hamburg based label hafendisko has been patiently building its reputation with a diverse and varied artist roster. Alongside releases from emerging talent such as Deo & Z-Man and Brynjolfor, it forms parent label hfn music's outlet for club oriented music whether with full releases or remixes for artists such as Kasper Bjørke and Faded Ranger and just recently welcomed renowned remixers such as Michael Mayer, Charles Webster and Luke Solomon, to name a few.

Now with the release of Nummer Eins, hafendisko is taking the next step in its evolution, serving up the best of past and present releases together with a string of exclusive cuts that signal an undeniably bright future. It’s machine music with real heart and soul as, time and again, the tracks locate that elusive sweet spot that unifies mind and body. 

The opening act replicates this highly collectable four track EP that precedes the compilation release: Snacks' 'Easy' provides an aptly titled intro, with sweet melodies, warm synth swells and looping vocal hooks evolving over a low slung, funk inflected groove. 'Purdie', the duo's debut last September instantly became a huge underground hit, while they are currently working on their debut album.

Unkwon is Anders Dixen from Copenhagen and people will stop asking if it's a typo soon. Just off his stunning remix for Trentemøller's 'Deceive' he takes it underground with the stuttering beats and melancholy phase of 'Everything', building a cavernous yet claustrophobic soundscape that's designed to make your eyeballs sweat, before Ewan Pearson's NRG instrumental of Kasper Bjørke's 'Apart' goes into dance floor overdrive, upping the ante again. Both the Michael Mayer and the Ewan Pearson mixes of Bjørke's final single off his newest album stirred a buzz. 

Next up, the mysterious 'Penelope' leads us into the darker corners of disco as Deo & Z-Man unleash a flurry of dusty tribal rhythms, lo-fi piano stabs and twisted analogue circuitry. With their debut album 'No Bullshit' under their belts the brothers just released the 'No Bullshit Remix EP (and album) with mixes by Arttu, SLG, Julius Steinhoff . Alex Dimou, Marc Schneider and many more.

Modern underground musical behemoth No.19 Music now turns to its expert roster of house and techno talents for a Spring Sampler that is bursting at the seams with ready made, floor filling dynamite. All the crew old and new feature including Guti, Nitin, Hector, Clayton Steele, Maher Daniel, Eric Volta, Art Department’s Kenny Glasgow and many more.
In recent times the label run by Canadian DJ and producer and one half of Art Department, Jonny White, has become one of the most charted, played and influential in the global house scene. Whether releasing definitive albums and compilations from Art Department, hot EPs from mainstays like Louie Fresco and Eric Volta or high profile remixes from the likes of Kerri Chandler, Frankie Knuckles or Fred P this label really is at the sharp end of the scene.
As has been the label’s habit in recent years, No.19 look to the coming WMC Miami event with another sterling collection of original tracks. Label co-boss Nitin kicks things off with the brilliantly emotive and melodically lush house grooves of ‘I See’. Crosstown Rebels regular and piano whizz Guti then gets all bumpy with his dusty, hip- hop influenced beats on the jazzed up ‘Ruski’. Then comes a another core member of the No.19 family, Canadian and All Day I Dream regular Maher Daniel. His track is a prickly, spaced-out tech roller with tons of atmosphere that is sure to captivating hearts and minds on dance floors everywhere.
Close label friend and synth genius Eric Volta then pairs off with Brohn for ‘Lines of Entropy’, a sensuously slow burning and cinematic cut that places all its focus on dazzling melodic lines and slick beats. The legend that is Kenny Glasgow then gets up to some jacking, wobbly and off kilter house business on ‘Be Strong’, which has plenty of percussive energy and serene pad work. Mexico’s top producer, who released his debut LP on No.19 last year, Louie Fresco once again shows his skills on the heady, hypnotic techno workout that is ‘Anonymity’. Desolat’s connoisseur craftsman Hector then seduces listens with his deep, warm and engaging house track ‘High Times’ and rising talent Jonathan Lee offers some perfectly syncopated house kicks and nervy synth patterns on ‘Loyal Suns.’
Silky & Dadon’s ‘Move’ is a rubbery & techy house affair that really comes alive with Cari Golden’s whispered but emphatic vocal delivery, Moreon & Baffa offer expertly thumping and dubbed out house that is on the verge of being techno with ‘Mare De Due’ and finally Clayton Steele’s ‘Action’ is a perfectly spaced out and spacious number with sci-fi influences, occult 80s vocals and tons of great effects.
Once again this fantastic new Spring Sampler shows that No.19 Music continues to evolve, unearth new names and remain way ahead of the curve. Filled with inventive sounds miles away from the norm, this release is a mouthwatering prospect for both DJs and dancers alike.

For our final record of the year, we turn to Glasgow's man of the year - Denis Sulta.

Like a good chunk of the Numbers family, he has earnt his stripes working at the coalface of techno aka Rubadub. He has crafted two excellent twelves for our bare-chested cousins at Dixon Avenue Basement Jams and is beginning to carve himself out a reputation as a DJ of some repute, expertly blending in the bangers with Sulta-certified weirdness. Denis is part of a new wave of Glaswegian artists who are doing amazing things and whose music is continuously exciting us.

‘It’s Only Real’ created by Sulta during a burst of inspiration one Sunday, takes us back to a time when techno was intricately melodic but still kicked hard in the club. Made with only the purest of intentions and a dedication to the art of moving heads and feet.

Wir freuen uns riesig euch heute unsere Nummer 16 zu präsentieren. Und das von niemandem geringeres als Soul Button, den wir am 8. April im Bullitt Club, München zu Gast haben werden.

Interview:

How and when did you get into electronic music?

I think I was around 17 when I listened to Kraftwerk for the first time and I was completely shocked with the sounds they were producing. I then started to do some research and after some months, discovered that Roland was making one of its first drum machines. I convinced my father to buy one and started to make music. Over the first year, I was only programming drums... no bass lines, no synths, only drums. Keep in mind there were no computers back then either. I then bought a sampler AKAI 900 months later and I produced my first techno vinyl at the age of 19. That was almost 20 years ago now. :)

Which musical moments have been especially memorable to you? 

For sure when I was very young, around 18, during the periods when I started creating my first techno live sets for illegal rave parties. I’m talking about free parties, it meant I was playing in front of 2-3 thousand people sometimes. Nice memories … 

Which plans do you have for the future with Steyoyoke?

Personally my goal is to release an album, but I don't think this will happen for a while, because I don’t have so much free time to stay in studio at the moment. Between my label office work and gigs, it keeps me very busy, but an album is definitely on the cards for the future. 

In regards to Steyoyoke, there aren't any really big plans. We just want to keep releasing good quality music with strong artistic concepts. All the artists are becoming more and more mature and the sound is evolving more and more, in its own unique way. I guess this is the key and my biggest goal.

If you could choose to play at any venue in the world, which place would it be?

Definitely at Warung in Brazil. I think it’s one of the most beautiful clubs and somewhere where I would love to play.

After a 9 month hiatus, Diynamic Music returns with the 12th edition of its famed “Four To The Floor” EPs. The label’s very own various artist series, which is always comprised of four dancefloor-oriented tracks that have one special quality in common: they have all been heavily road tested and certified by label boss Solomun on his countless gigs all over the world. 

Opening the record is “Monster” by Matthew Dear, his personal ode to the kickdrum. His eldritch voice almost turns into a haunting spiritual ceremony by singing eerie chants and entrancing phrases.
Up next is “Reaktor” by ELAX, an artist you have never heard from before, because it is a new moniker of Alex Ridha aka Boys Noize. This hypnotizing anthem would be the best possible soundtrack for the worst possible nuclear meltdown.
The third track comes from Denis Horvat and is called “Madness Of Many”, a gloomy melodic Techno track for those late hours at the club. 
Closing off the 12th instalment of “Four To The Floor” are Animal Picnic & Novakk with “Khokana”. Their contribution to the record is a driving and dreamy Deep House tune, certain to provide for closed eyes and raised hands on dancefloors everywhere.
