Solid Steel (10th January) This week it's our extended Solid Steel family member DJ Kentaro. Having released his Solid Steel mix CD in 2005 and two albums on Ninja Tune, he's one of the world's best turntablist who will rock the dancefloor alongside showcasing his turntable skills. He explodes into the New Year with a mix to wipe away any hangover cobwebs that may still be lurking. After kicking off with his own track Torus, it's onto the Flume remix for Hermitude and into a couple of Latin flavoured trap beats from Tropkillaz. He continues in a similar vein with music from Troyboi, TNGHT, UZ, Blanchez and Jackal, before easing slightly with Lindsay Lowend & Jonah Baseball, Lung, Culprate and Lone.

Bulletdodge Radio 44 - 27.06.14

In part one of our Hip Deep Brazil series, we travel back in time to Rio de Janeiro in the early 20th century to explore the birth of Brazil’s most iconic sound: samba. Beginning with the arrival of poor nordestinos in the city after the end of slavery in 1888, we follow the exploits of the early sambistas as they forged the genre that would come to represent the nation. Brazilian scholar Carlos Sandroni shows us how Afro-Brazilian religious music and popular styles like modinha transformed into the syncopated samba beat. Then, media scholar Bryan McCann guides us through the glamor and political intrigue of 1930s Rio as samba explodes as the popular music of choice throughout the country. We speak with samba greats from the old guard to the young bloods, including Dona Yvone Lara, Heitorzinho dos Prazeres, Paulão 7-Cordas and Luciana Rabelo. In closing, we find out how samba, an ambitious radio station and a populist dictatorship worked together to shape Brazilians’ ideas about race, society and the Brazilian nation itself.

DJ Mathis ”Mega M.” Rousseau was born and raised in the great city of Chicago.
    His love of Housemusic began when he heard mixes on the radio in the mid 80’s. In the late 80’s and early 90’s while living in Harvey, Illinois, he started spinning. In ’92 he moved to Evanston, Illinois that is where he improved his skills on the 1’s and 2’s. After which, he started making mixtapes and doing Houseparties in ’93. By 1997 and 1998, Dj Mathis “Mega M.” Rousseau had two residencies. His first was at the “The Stuff Lounge” in Chicago Heights, Illinois on Tuesday nights and his second was at Biddy Mulligans’ on the northside of Chicago on Thursday nights. 
After an eleven-year break, in 2010 DJ Mathis “Mega M.” Rousseau emerged back on the House scene with a vengeance. He has had sets at Smartbar, Primary, Evil Olive, Grandbar, Castle, DoorNo.3, Swig, Crocodile Lounge, Xippo, Exit, Zhou B. Art Center, Lokal, Output Lounge, Sub-T, The Celebrity Lounge, DHS, MLounge, Elbo Room, and Parlour. He has worked with over 30 well-known Chicago and some internationally known House DJs’.He also has played at the 2013 Winter Music Conference in Miami and Chicago's House of Sol 2013. DJ Mathis “Mega M.” Rousseau brings energy, excitement and exuberance to any dance floor. He is a legend in the making!
