We have combined an interview and a mixtape today, both from one of Holland's most promising talents. He's 23 years young, born and raised in Amsterdam and understands our capitals nightlife like no other. He has made huge leaps forward in his musical career the last couple of months. He just got back from a mini tour in the States. During ADE '13 he will be playing alongside Maceo Plex, Tale of Us, Danny Daze and Tennis at 'Audio Obscura: Ellum and Life & Death Showcase'. Of which the latter he is now part-time label manager for. And he's only been DJ'ing actively for little more than a year. Job Jobse is his name, and he's been showing up on our radar more and more, so it’s time to get to know more about this homegrown artist. I had a nice and extensive talk with him, discussing his work at club Trouw, obsessive female fans and the future of deep house. Next to an interview, this article will also feature Job's mixtape for Deep House Amsterdam. It's very sexy and deep, perfect for this Friday afternoon.

Maceo Plex Boiler Room Berlin DJ Set

I've been listening to Essential mixes since I first started getting into clubs and electronic music, so it was a shock, and exciting for me, to get the offer to make one myself. The two hour format really allows some time to explore ideas musically as well.

So bringing everything together, I decided to try and make it an exploration of everything that has made me so obsessed with electronic music for the last 20 years, with some of my favourite records from the mid 90's, unreleased material from my favourite artists like Nils Frahm, Lusine, Tim Hecker and Rob Clouth, and a range of genres from ambient to 90 bpm electronica, house and techno, all the way up to 170bpm glitched jungle mayhem - I thought, why not have some fun with it!?

So it's certainly not a normal club mix, it's just what I think is the best music out there, without worrying about what genre or box any particular track fits into or how things should be done "properly". I wanted to leave some sections quite ambient as well, to give breathing space between the peaks, so I'm happy to be able to post this new version up, minus the broadcast talking and idents.

"Normally I know that high expectations kill the vibe, so I always try to walk my way open minded and don’t expect anything special from the future, but this time I couldn’t help it. When the Robot told me that she wanted me to play the sunrise set and that we will be connected with the Mayan Warrior soundsystem, I could feel it already in Berlin a full three weeks before… Then when I finally took the bus over to Robot Heart it was even better than in my craziest expectations. This gig was by far the most emotional gig I have ever played. All I can say is thank you, I am even more happy now to be born on this weird planet which can be really beautiful sometimes, when you give it  chance to be free. Thank you you for dancing with me and giving me so much Love. So here is my try to give something back.

Art piece: Awakening

The human body is the most highly engineered object in existence, a machine of uncountable parts and unfathomable function. Its workings have served as inspiration for all of humanity's greatest inventions. This work is an homage to the two most amazing mechanisms in that machine: the human eye and hand. The head is a 16 foot camera obscura demonstrating the ray optics principals underlying the spherical lensed eye humans posses and the hands are actuated mimicking the tendons and bones of the body. Together they represent what separates life from the rest of the universe, the ability to observe the world around us and manifest change in that world.

Cette semaine honneur au Festival Nordik Impakt qui accueille en son sein une flopée de jeunes pousses de la galaxie électro à chaque nouvelle édition. A cette occasion, nous avions enregistré la prestation live de French 79.  L'artiste marseillais à parcouru du chemin depuis la sortie de son album et se révèle clairement comme la relève de l'électro mélodique à la française.
