The cover art proudly proclaims Technique's Summer 2016 album to be “100% Drum and Bass”. You might be forgiven for thinking that begs more questions that it answers. There's a huge breadth and versatility encompassed within the genre. So, you're left asking, what particular flavour of D&B are we talking about? Well, to answer your query, pretty much all of them.

Across thirty-seven tracks, Drumsound and Bassline Smith have assembled a cross-section of D&B that only has one thing in common: that summertime vibe. The label bosses themselves roll through with the fluid jungle of the Solah-laced “Cover Our Eyes”, the no-holds-barred funk of “Rise of the Black Panther” and their epic dubwise collaboration with Digital, “First World Problem”.

And then there are the big name cameos from artists not normally seen under the Technique banner. Brookes Brothers and Danny Byrd team up with the uplifting drive of “Climb High”, matched in hands-in-the-air power by the euphoric piano of The Prototypes' “Don't Let Me Go”. J Majik recruits 78° and Louie Cabrera for “Day I Left” and “Idcomercial” respectively. And the mighty DJ SS drops an emotively claustrophobic killer in the form of “Expression”.

Of course, the regular regiment of Technique soldiers are present and correct too. Tantrum Desire delivers the tech atmospherics of “Tesoro”, while Kronology subverts the big-room sound with the unpredictable twists and turns of “Everyday”. L Plus backs up rumbling bass and popping beats with entwined chord patterns in “Invincible”. Plus Document One show two different sides to their character, with the jazzfunk vibe of “Klaxon” and the paranoid sci-fi of “Say What”.

And we're nowhere near covering everything this album has to offer. From the jungle tear-out of Brian Brainstorm's “Badman Selector” to the minimal magic of Oder's “Mesmerize”, via the liquid purity of Salaryman's “He Knows”, this is a journey that needs to be experienced. Any selection that takes you straight from Fade's “Disco Ball” into Conspire's “Glare of Brass” then to Salaryman's “Synthesized Melancholia” is making a statement about the strength in depth of the D&B genre right now.

It's all here. This is the whole summertime drum and bass experience cut up into thirty-seven expertly-formed slices which, taken together, represent the full spectrum of what the scene has to offer. It's as simple as that.

Been living under a rock? No? Well, in that case, you won’t need to be told about the achievements of Manchester’s North Base. Together, team members Silver, Splice, and Prophecy have released on an eye-watering array of the world’s biggest DnB labels, and appeared on stages most deejays can only dream of. Basically, they’re a big deal. And now, following up their almighty collaboration with Erb N Dub, Punk Rock, they’re back on Technique with some brand new dynamite.

Precision-engineered horns and the swell of pads set the tone immediately. Then as Manchester singer-songwriter Ewan Sim’s distinctive vocal rises over the horizon, I’m Forgiving Love takes on a character all of its own. It’s soulful, and at the same time draws on an almost folk-like heartfelt flavour. We get all of that, underpinned with North Base’s trademark ultra-clean synth manipulation and a build that’s going to cause serious levels of hype. This tune’s clearly going to grab people’s attention across raves and airwaves alike.

As I’m Forgiving Love drops, it’s that serpentine swirl of bass that grabs your attention immediately. Modulating and transforming from bar to bar, once this tune has you in its grasp it’s not going to let you go without a fight. Uppercuts of kick and snare drive the point home, and reverberating siren-calls and snippets of vocal repurposed as percussive fills keep the energy at maximum. A lighters-up breakdown gives the ravers a moment to catch their breath before the madness kicks back in once again. This is simultaneously a main-stage anthem and a high-calibre deejay weapon that’s going to be heard everywhere.

So, North Base have returned to Technique and, to put it simply, they’ve delivered a banger. Explosive bass and beats make this certified dancefloor material, tied together with a vocal from Ewan Sim that gives an extra emotional dimension. Manny’s in the house and they’re not playing.

Individually and as part of a duo, Matrix & Futurebound have decades worth of experience in shaping the drum & bass landscape. Brendan Collins and Jamie Quinn possess one of the most impressive track records in the genre's history, boasting one hundred million combined streams, one critically acclaimed album 'Universal Truth' and multiple consecutive Top 40 UK records. Their expert song writing can be seen through cuts such as 'All I Know', 'Magnetic Eyes' alongside Baby Blue, 'Don't Look Back' ft. Tanya Lacey and the legendary silver certified 'Control' with Max Marshall, which reached number seven on the UK's Top 40 singles chart whilst representing their fourth consecutive track to be playlisted on BBC Radio 1. Matrix & Futurebound are set to capitalise on this success for 2019- their forthcoming second studio LP 'Mystery Machine' is a testament to the legacy which they've built throughout their career, as they've become one of the most influential figures for a colossal dance music export. 
2005 was the year which led to the collaborative project between Matrix & Futurebound; 'Strength to Strength' was a pivotal moment for both artists, who were already prolific through their individual pseudonyms and it's a relationship which soon developed with exciting results. Their debut album 'Universal Truth' in 2007, jointly released on Matrix's Metro Recordings and Futurebound's Viper Recordings, signified the beginning of their joint alias. With Futurebound already having a powerful stake in the Liverpudlian bass scene and with London-based Matrix becoming a staple in DJ sets across the city's major club spaces, they had laid the foundations to launch a critical production team. 
Since then, the pair have gone on to cross over the divide between the underground world of drum & bass and mainstream commercial achievements, with their music translating to both intimate clubs spaces and global festival audiences. 2018 saw the first steps towards 'Mystery Machine', with title track 'Mystery Machine', 'Tardis', 'Live Another Day' and 'Believe' signalling the dancefloor viability of their next historic addition to an already impressive back catalogue. Having debuted many of its ground-breaking new records on stages at EDC, UKF Buenos Aires, Reading & Leeds, Glastonbury, Creamfields, Exit Festival, Let it Roll and due to showcase their album at the first of their 'Matrix & Futurebound Presents' nights at XOYO, they helped define the year's taste making tracks. 
But it's not just their standalone tracks which have caught the ears of fans and trend setters alike; as two of the biggest drum & bass figures, they've also remixed the likes of Emeli Sande, Pendulum, Eric Prydz, Jess Glynne, Demi Lovato, Labrinth, Birdy, Tinie Tempah plus many more names of the same stature. Their Emeli Sande rework was one of the vocal drum & bass anthems of the year gaining huge support from daytime Radio 1, making its way into the A list and with extensive specialist play from Annie Mac. This culminated in a highly successful Live Lounge appearance where the duo performed 'Breathing Underwater' with Emeli at Maida Vale, with their remix closing the London NYE fireworks.
Their next single 'Got You There', penned by esteemed songwriter Becky Hill and featuring alt-pop newcomer Zelah on vocals, begins the New Year with a slab of stunning musicality. Released through Viper / Metro Recordings, the emotionally charged anthem received three consecutive weeks of Radio 1 support on Mistajam's Dance Anthems slot, as well as being featured on the Spotify UK and US New Music Friday playlist. It was a hugely successful offering from Matrix & Futurebound and it's another chapter which brings listeners closer to the reveal of 'Mystery Machine'.
