Melbourne's Inner Tribe label has been releasing some fantastic music over the last couple of years.  With the hugely talented producer Inkwel behind the label it is no surprise that the quality on show has been pretty spectacular with releases from Colonel Red, Jsoul, Rob Edwards, Edseven and many more classy artists. With a byline 'Forward thinking SOUL music from Lemonade City!' it's a label which very much ticks that box with some aplomb.

Inner Tribe's latest release is the labels first VA compilation and it's a  bit of a monster release. Comprising 21 tracks from many of the labels luminaries plus a whole batch of new to the label talent including Craig Smith< Jason Hogans and Sofa Talk. Packed with everything from deep atmospheric hip hop though laidback soul,  broken beat and house it's a wonderful listen.

Our premier today is one of the housier tracks from the album @olivernight's 'Thinking About You'. It's deep, warm and incredibly soulful. A perfect fit as the album weaves it's way through the genres.

We are excited to premiere "Bill" by Kuna Maze. With it's lush jazz chords and summery broken beat groove, it's the perfect track to see out the summer, no doubt it will fill a few dancefloors before the summer is out.

Released later this week, "Bill" is the lead track from “My Fish Is Burning", the new EP from Brussels-based producer, DJ and multi-instrumentalist Kuna Maze, aka Edouard Gilbert, due for release on 7th October, via Brighton UK's Tru Thoughts.  

The new single features keyboard player Dorian Dumont, who adds some extra magic touches to Kuna Maze’s layered jazz instrumentation and syncopated broken beat production.

Talking about the wonderfully bizarre EP name “My Fish Is Burning” (a nod to a Detroit-legend) Edouard says: “I was listening to a Moodymann interview on radio, and at one point he says to the interviewer; ‘hold on I gotta go, my fish is burning’. I don’t know why but it made me laugh, like he planned an interview while cooking his fish meal”.

​​Matching the eccentric title – sculptor, painter and long-time-collaborator Cedric Esturillo who produced the EP artwork – interprets the music into a visual form. The duo have been working together on their visual mix series “From Sight To Hearing”.

Boasting releases on Cascade and Galant Records, as well as remixes and collaborations with the likes of Andreya Triana, Blu Samu, Black Josh, Ødyssee, Katuchat, Woodwire, Winston McAnuff (plus loads more!), Kuna Maze has found a new home on the Brighton-staple Tru Thoughts, turning his hand to the resurgent sounds of jazz-infused broken beat.

Kuna Maze also has a duo project with Lyon-based producer Nicolas Morant aka Nikitch. Their excellent 'Débuts’ record is out now on Tru Thoughts, and has been remixed by no less than Domu.

Taken from 'Still Flute', the long awaited follow up to Tenderlonious' acclaimed 'On Flute' album, "Song For My Mother" is the perfect fusion of Ed Cawthorne's myriad musical sensibilities.

Ed's forthcoming 'Still Flute' album follows succession of releases over the last couple of years alone. From jazz fusion with his band Ruby Rushton, Hindustani classical with Pakistani quartet Jaubi, a tribute to British jazz legend Tubby Hayes, to space disco with Lorenzo Morressi, or deep house, electro funk and ambient electronica in his solo studio productions, Cawthorne has pushed at the boundaries, particularly his own, evolving, surprising and continuously captivating listeners.

"Song For My Mother" is one of four deep house jams sporting Ed's exuberant flute soloing. He tells us, "this is kinda the follow up to an old favourite of mine ‘song for my father’ that featured on my album ‘on flute’, so it was time I dedicated a tune to my mother. Clocking-in at just over nine minutes long, the tune builds with a multitude of percussive elements until it reaches a climatic flute solo before winding back down to atmospheric strings and a bubbly synth solo. Hopefully it’ll get some dance floors moving."

Due for release in October, 'Still Flute', is a very worthy addition to the Cawthorne's rapidly growing catalogue. Live flute and synth work sit comfortably over deep house, modern electro funk, spiritual ragas and ambient soundscapes.
