I recently watched the “Tina” biography movie and was very moved by Tina Turner’s life which started with an extremely traumatic childhood of watching her mother be beaten by her father, experiencing abuse herself, and then abandonment by both her parents. Repeating these trauma patterns she fell into an extremely abusive and brutal marriage for 16 years. She finally was able to escape and brake the trauma cycle and credits a daily practice of Buddhism chanting for helping her manifest all she has in her life now-including being married to the love of her life who recently gave up one of his kidneys for her. Some sad stories do get to have happy endings. 

I was inspired to sing one of Tina’s songs for you which is also one of my all time favourites.  “Simply the Best!”

One Summer Saturday morning 2014 a bird sang the exact phrase at the start of this song outside the bedroom window; twice. Then the arpeggio twice. It was beautiful. I got up, picked up a Strat which had a capo on the 5th fret and played it. It fitted perfectly. Next weekend, in the rain, I made the music up. This bird listened on my neighbour's roof, washing her wings & she stayed for 20 minutes. I can't tell if she taught me the opening phrases the week before, but this bird has visited my sick daughter regularly for 4 seasons, so I call the song Mrs Blackbird....The birdsong clip is from Freesound
