Ahh, what can I say about this mix? Right before this campout I had gone through a really rough couple of weeks. I lost a really good friend (I love you Brandon aka B Funky) and literally 2 days after their passing, while I was on my bike leaving work, I witnessed a very traumatic fatal pedestrian vs. auto accident in which I was first on scene and felt so helpless. I know that life has its ups and downs but that was a really rough time.

This FnF campout was in my calendar for a couple of months before all this shit happened and I am such a fan and supporter of the FnF events that I was honored & excited to be DJing. But the thing was, my head wasn't in its usual, happy, content space. I felt sad and angry. So I decided that the best way to work it out would be through music with my very accepting, understanding & forgiving FnF community.

This set was recorded live on Saturday night (aka Sunday morning) on September 10 (technically 9/11), 2022 from 3-4am. There are no edits to the live recording aside from a gentle mastering process to bring up the levels, so what you hear is what we all experienced that night. This is probably the darkest set (for me) that I've played in a while. It bumps at around 130bpm and bounces between tech house and techno. It was a cathartic set and I felt like things started slowly making a turn for the better immediately after this campout.

After reviewing this set list, I want to give two special shout outs: 

1) To Matt Sassari, whom I only discovered whilst shopping for techno for this campout. I played two of his originals in this set but I actually bought quite a few more, I really like his productions and am happy to have discovered a new (to me) artist. 

2) Track 15, "Temporary," was one that I originally purchased for the FnF Summer campout but never played. I forgot about it and then rediscovered it when I was preparing for this campout. Turns out the lyrics were just what I needed at the time:

Chicago-based @god-particle-vinyl label head @sassmouth played this DJ set in Chicago on 12/3/22 as a part of our 'Mike Parker / Secret Warehouse Location' event. She took the decks from 1-2:30am, delivering a set of techno cuts which spanned dub, minimal, acid, and experimental styles, shifting seamlessly between records and CDJs throughout.

Born and raised in the outer badlands of Chicago and upon his migration to the home of House Music was educated in the boompty-bass school of hard knocks, forming him into the funk-doc, soul controller of the dance-floor that he is today. 

From in the cut is where he launches his schemes for dance-floor obliteration and only in the moment of truth will you ever really see Matt Main lose his cool as it is poured through the speakers and into your body. Time and place has no bearing on his agenda as his singular purpose at the controls is to funk you, bang you and bounce you with an eclectic range of techno and house tracks.
Matt Main not only hatches his plans for the dance-floor from behind the decks but also from behind the scenes  as a key component of the No Affiliation parties that helped set the highest standards for underground events in Chicago. His time running boards and doing production for some of Chicago’s largest festivals and events has allowed him to bring a level of technical proficiency to his own events and mix. Whether at work or play Matt Main’s life is shrouded in perfecting the organized noise that is so often bringing people to various states of sweaty elation.

Currently residing in Oakland, California, Matt Main has shifted his focus to the studio since his migration out west.  He's teamed up with other Bay Area artists joining forces with Prox.im.i.ty to explore deeper techy vibes and helping form Gypsy Disco Project to keep it Chicago.  Still a relatively unknown entity in the Bay Area, it’s only a matter of time before the word is out and his new home can embrace his renegade sound.
