What was supposed to be a quick travel sketch has quickly evolved into a study of loneliness, inspired by a bit unsteady busy signal of the phone and the rain. It doesn't matter what exactly city it is, it's all just a mirror to your own soul in the end.

Before the vocals, before words gave it direction, there was already a shimmer waiting to be uncovered. A sound that carried the mountain’s essence before even being there – as if the music itself had foreseen the journey.

The instrumental version is that premonition. The unspoken heart of Shimmer – instinctive, timeless, and shaped by silence, horizons, and emotions that existed long before I realized them.

What remains of us

Back in 2019 me and my wife were traveling through South East Asia (and eventually got ‘stuck’ in Australia because of the world famous pandemic but that’s another story) and I recorded a bamboo water tumbler (if that’s the correct word for it) in Pam Bok near Pai in Thailand. I always wanted to use the sound of the tumbler (and the small creek it was standing in) but couldn’t find the right spot for it. Now I finally found use for it in this little meditative sounding ambient song. The title is a (rough) translation of how the locals call this bamboo bridge ([Boon] Kho Ku Sui or Kho Ku So).
