In 1975, during the early days of OBIISSS, Billy Noknees recorded what would become one of his most infamous tracks: Have You Seen My Balls?. The song, equal parts cheeky humour and groovy funk, was originally intended as a light-hearted, bass-driven jam for their early live sets. However, what no one realized until recently was that the original demo session—long thought lost—contained a raw, unpolished smoother version of the track that has now been rediscovered.

Recorded in a tiny backroom studio in Greenwich Village, the demo features Billy on lead vocals and bass, accompanied by a hastily assembled group of local session musicians. The rough take captures the playful essence of the song, complete with Billy’s improvised ad-libs and the now-iconic chorus: “Have you seen my balls? Glistening like waterfalls” The early version is smoother and less polished than the later release, with an infectious groove and a looser, more spontaneous feel.

The session itself was a chaotic affair, as Billy kept losing focus and going off on tangents about “the perfect ball metaphor” while the band tried to hold things together. Producer Terry “womble” Terrence reportedly grew so frustrated listening to stories about Balls that he walked out midway through, leaving the band to finish the demo on their own. Despite the drama, the track was recorded, though the master tape was shelved and presumed lost.

Fast forward to 2023, when the demo was discovered tucked away in an unmarked reel-to-reel tape box at an estate sale in Greenwich Village. The tape, still intact after nearly 50 years, has now been lovingly remastered using the magic of AI, bringing the raw energy of the original session to life.

Presented here with its original sleeve, Have You Seen My Balls (75 Demo) is a glimpse into the early, unfiltered creativity of Billy Noknees. It’s a rare and playful piece of OBIISSS history, capturing the band at their funkiest and most unapologetically absurd.
