PAX - Electric Feel (Extended Mix)

Simply an iconic track from Swiss brothers Mandrax and Seb K aka Shakedown, ‘At Night’ is one of the most recognisable house tracks of the last two decades. Stepping up to tackle this masterpiece with a sophisticated house remix with a nu-disco edge is Purple Disco Machine. Hot off the success of his debut album ‘Soulmatic’ in 2017, Tino Piontek fuses a funk-infused bassline with Terra Deva’s unforgettable vocals that give ‘At Night’ its resoundingly unique after-dark quality. Adding magic to this track seemed an impossible task, but one which the Disco Machine has risen to with ease, bringing the track neatly into 2018.

The next artist stepping up to mix Defected’s coveted In The House series is Melé, a producer whose standout percussive sound and infectious energy behind the decks makes him one of the UK’s most captivating, flourishing DJs. From 13-year-old bedroom DJ growing up in the Wirral to his breakout tribal anthem ‘Ambience’ in 2015, Melé has now fully honed his skills in production and mixing, culminating in two mixes for ‘Defected presents Melé In The House’ and three brand new productions. Two of these original productions are included in this sampler, demonstrating what’s to come from the compilation.

With live percussion from drum warrior Shovell, the cover of ‘Pasilda’ pumps up the track’s unmistakeable rhythms and piano melody (recorded live by prolific record producer Fraser T Smith) with an irresistibly hefty bassline and vocal loops. A long-time highlight of Melé’s sets but until now unreleased, ‘Pasilda’ is an exclusive from the upcoming compilation. The aptly named ‘Brooklyn Bounce’ is Melé’s ode to Danny Tenaglia, a key influence whose sought-after percussive spirit is apparent throughout Melé's work. This sophisticated pumping house cut with plenty of signature layered percussion is the perfect set-up for the anticipated ‘Defected presents Melé In The House’.

One half of iconic British duo Basement Jaxx Felix Buxton and vocalist Gia make their Defected debut with the soul-stirring ‘So Hooked On Your Lovin’, alongside two groove-loaded remixes by Mousse T.. The first ever release under their Selace pseudonym, the record comes laden with lingering organ chords and stunningly raw vocals, echoing the stripped back quality of Switch’s ‘I Still Love You’ and with a similar deep-reaching feel to Massive Attack’s early 90s classic ‘Unfinished Sympathy’. Production maestro Mousse T. works his magic with his funk-drenched Disco Shizzle mix loaded with a pumping bassline and guitar riffs alongside a deeper Dubby Shizzle version laced with a spoken word hook. Matt was born into House music back in 1996 with his first major residency at Pacha Ibiza, spanning a massive 15 years of House music and Pacha history!  Performing on the clubs biggest branded nights from Ministry Of Sound, Defected, Erick Morillo’s Subliminal, Roger Sanchez’s Release Yourself, Def Mix, Pure Pacha, Renaissance, David Guetta’s F**k Me I’m Famous to the Swedish House Mafia’s Masquerade Motel. 

Gracing Matt’s dance floors throughout the years at Pacha were iconic music legends Jamiroquai, Dr Dre (NWA), P Diddy, Moloko, Oasis and Mick Jagger! Not forgetting the many A list Hollywood actors getting down to Matt’s grooves from Denzel Washington, Sylvester Stallone to Miami Vice’s bad boy Don Johnson! 

Matt’s talents didn’t stop in Ibiza, he went on to tour globally for the Pacha brand.  Guesting for some of the world’s top venues from Ruby Skye San Francisco, Ku De Ta Bali, The Ivy Sydney, Dragon Fly Jakarta, Ministry Of Sound & The Egg London, Supermarket Zurich, Jungle Experience Koh Phangan, Discotheque Barcelona, Taboo Las Vegas, Ce La Vi Singapore to Set Miami.  Playing global Pacha tours in Brazil and Russia with an additional residency at Pacha Moscow.
 
On the record production side Matt has signed to some of the most respected electronic dance music labels. Releasing in 2005 on classic House imprints such as Soulfuric, Peppermint Jam, Strictly Rhythm to Spinnin Records and Axwell’s Axtone!  Transitioning in more recent years to underground sounds with releases on Snatch!, Incorrect, Sound Division, Toolroom, DTLA, There Was Jack, Club Sweat, Stashed, Total Freedom, Flashmob, Hot Fuss, DTLA, Simma Black, House Heads, Dvision, Motive and Kittball!
