LIGHT MINDED - Biography [ENG]

Light Minded, born and raised on the rugged shores of northern Calabria in the heart of the Jonica coast, is a multifaceted artist whose sonic explorations have traversed the vast landscapes of electronic music. Rooted in the vibrant underground scene, Light Minded is renowned for seamlessly blending Experimental electronic music, Hypnotic and Underground Techno, IDM, Ambient, Drone, Downtempo, and even venturing into the realms of 2step and UK Bass.

For the past two decades, Light Minded has called Bologna home, a city that not only became the backdrop to his life but also the canvas upon which he painted his musical journey. His career took flight in the early 2000s, releasing a plethora of singles, EPs, and albums under various renowned labels, including the esteemed Planet Rhythm in Rotterdam. His live performances, be it captivating live sets or dynamic DJ sets, have graced significant musical events, from intimate club settings to expansive festivals, both in Bologna, Italy, and abroad.

Among the most important chapters of Light Minded's musical legacy are his residencies at exclusive one-night events such as High-Quality House @ Cassero and Doc Show @ Chalet delle Rose, true references of Bolognese nightlife. His musical prowess has also resonated in all of the city's other iconic clubs, from Kindergarten to Redrum, Matis to Arteria, and of course at the legendary Link.
He has shared the stage with a number of international artists such as Adam Beyer, Ellen Alien, Vitalic, Perc, Maceo Plex, Agoria, Anthony Rother, Octave One, Truncate, and with true legends of Italian DJing such as Ralf, Alex Neri, Freddy K, Leo Anibaldi and others.

In 2008, Light Minded birthed the influential electronic music crew "Switch," a collective of electronic music artists and party designers that swiftly transformed into a beacon of Bolognese quality club life. As the artistic director of Switch, Light Minded tirelessly scoured the local, national, and international scenes, introducing emerging talents like Claudio PRC, D. Carbone, Ness, Fabrizio Lapiana, and Emmanuel to the city's eager audience.

While his early years were marked mostly by DJ activity, in 2011 he embraced the realm of live performance, embarking on a transformative journey that led to magical audiovisual collaborations. One such enchanting experience was the Live AV performance at the 2012 roBOt Festival, held in Bologna's historic Palazzo Re Enzo, alongside the talented visual artist Jacopsen (Jacopo Di Crescenzo). This synergy of sounds and images has become a hallmark of Light Minded's art, captivating audiences not only in Bologna, but also in Rome at the LPM Live Performers Meeting Festival, the "La Portella" theater in Oriolo, the "Antonio Di Jorio" theater in Atessa (Chieti), and MIKZ in Berlin, where he shared the stage with accomplished keyboardist Gino Di Fazio.

In 2012, he ventured into the realm of video mapping, crafting bespoke soundscapes for historical monuments across various Italian municipalities, a collaboration with Jacopsen, the founder of Aelion, a visual design, and multimedia company. This endeavor became a testament to Light Minded's ability to merge art and technology, enhancing Italy's cultural and artistic heritage.

Continuing his commitment to artistic innovation, Light Minded contributed his musical expertise to Genus Bononiae, a project by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Bologna. His compositions and sound effects became integral components of the permanent installations recounting the rich history of Alma Mater Studiorum (University of Bologna) and the culinary traditions of Bologna, showcased within the Museum of the History of Bologna.

In 2016, Light Minded embraced a new role as a music entrepreneur, co-founding the renowned record label Switch Music Recordings alongside the polyhedral producer Spong-X. The label swiftly gained recognition within the underground music community, with tracks receiving support from acclaimed artists such as Richie Hawtin, Agoria, Maceo Plex, Paco Osuna, Shifted, Recondite just to mention a few names. 
Today, Switch Music Recordings boasts an impressive catalog of over 30 releases, ranging from Electronica to Techno, passing throuth IDM, Ambient, Experimental, and even hybrid genres like Deep, House, 2Step, LeftField, and UK Bass.

Beyond the realm of music, Light Minded finds solace in the realms of informatics and technology. His passion for these fields led him to share his knowledge, teaching Ableton Live and Sound Design in Bologna's educational institutions. On weekdays, he dons the hat of a Software Engineer, shaping architectural solutions for web and mobile applications in the realms of front-end, full stack, cloud, and DevOps.

Currently pursuing studies in Musical Informatics at the esteemed University of Milan, "La Statale," Light Minded explores the intersection of coding and electronic music, creating experimental projects that echo his innovative spirit, often shared on his GitHub page. Amidst this diverse array of pursuits, he continues to carve a unique sonic path, leaving an indelible mark on the contemporary electronic music scene.
