Phantoms Of The Asteroid - Matt Gray Remake Preview

This week's Disquiet Junto prompt challenged us to a duel with a metronome: record a piece of music that weaves in and out of a steady beat. 

I assembled a trio comprising the Moog Minitaur (lead and bass), Roland Juno (pads), and Waldorf Streichfett (strings). I improvised a meandering chord sequence and spent a lot of time mixing multiple layers of analog pads to bring it to life. Against the steady backdrop of a simple percussion pattern, I recorded the lead performance on the Minitaur. Since this synth doesn't sync to the MIDI clock on the computer, riding the LFO controls manually let me improvise the swirling/cycling/beating patterns that dance within, against, and without the beat. 

About the vocals: When I was listening to the mix earlier today, I heard a momentary audio artifact that sounded like a muffled voice. This inspired me to add a vague vocal part for way back in the mix, so recorded myself reading an excerpt from "A Vision of the Night" by Ambrose Bierce.

Shinobi - Crimson Blessing

"Monochromatic Neon Lights", is my tribute to two of my favorite composers who layered the ground for my landscape in the world of music. Vangelis, Jarre, both kings who's always inspired me since an early age. The city life late at night when everyone are asleep added a melancholy emotion to this song, somehow reflects the amazing music Jóhann Jóhannsson wrote. This is my contribution to "Sound of SceneSat Vol.4"

This is a part-finished version of the Ocean Loader by the wonderful Martin Galway. It was intended to be a 'demo' track for eJay eQuality - the Pro Level sequencer from eJay that was in development for many months, but never saw the light of day due to Empire Interactive going into liquidation. So, here it is... my unfinished upmix -  not quite done and baked, but possibly worth a listen? Martin kindly agreed to allow me to upmix this and use it as a demo song, in (if I recall correctly) return for a pie and a pint(!) ;O)
