For their latest release, the Beatport chart-topping duo Tube & Berger are joined by the talented and passionate Juliet Sikora whose role whether at the label, in the studio or in front of a crowd has made her an invaluable asset to the Kittball imprint.
‘Set It Off’ is an archetypal demonstration of the trio’s flair for creating depth within a production. Inspired by Strafe’s 1984 electro funk classic on the same name and spanning everything from retro-synths to techy elements the track is a true illustration of their wide musical compass, with an organic sounding guitar reflecting their early roots in punk music. Never ones to rest on their laurels, this cut is a further string to their evermore impressive bow, coming as it does at the tail end of Tuber & Berger’s most triumphant year to date with a momentum they will unquestionably carry on into the next.

Unquestionably two of modern house musics most prized artists, Tube & Berger are responsible for multiple Beatport #1s including "Lovebreak", "Come On Now (Set It Off)", and "Imprint of Pleasure" – with Beatport naming the latter as their 9th Top Selling Track of All Time and the 7th Top DJ Charted Track of All Time. When not trotting the globe, they release regularly on the worlds leading electronic music record labels, with this year alone spanning Suara, Ultra, FFRR, Defected, as well as remixing indie band White Lies on their very own Kittball imprint.Therefore their latest release on Kittball is one that will fall on thousands of eager ears, particularly as each track is produced in collaboration with three of the labels favourite artists. "In the Shadows" is the first on the release, a track created alongside Ante Perry that contains a murky bassline, funky guitar plucking, and fluttering vocals – a peak time party number. In "Reliquia" the duo team up with PAJI for a gloomy production comprising sweeping synths, melodic keys, and a distorted spoken sample. It is a deep and atmospheric affair that will make for some spine-tingling moments on any dancefloor. Tying up the release is a collaboration with in.deed titled "Highness", a poignant cut complete with sultry synths, elegant chords, and rich low-ends, until subtle keys trail off concluding a fresh and innovative release.

Vertere - Mind Against & Somne

Constantly turning around itself, the winding melody of Vertere turns outward and inward at the same time, bringing the listener on a journey outward while mirroring a simultaneous labyrinthine journey inward. Like the word itself, Vertere, with its roots in the Latin word Verto (which itself takes its roots in the earlier Sanskrit word, Vartayati) it signifies the very nature of change itself. It means both to turn and reflect inward and yet also move forward — a call to action for setting in motion new things. A paradox at first glance but also perhaps a surprisingly accurate description of the destructive and reconstructive nature of creation. An apt metaphor for this bright new collaboration between established Life and Death artists Mind Against and the new artist project of Federico Maccherone, aka Somne.

On remix duties, when you have an artist of the caliber of Tobias Freund, you don’t need to ask for anything more and with his outstanding remix of Vertere he very clearly shows why. This long time mainstay of the electronic music scene has managed to stay not just relevant but on the cutting edge longer than most with respected releases on some of the most seminal imprints to be putting out music in the world of underground dance music. With Vertere he takes what’s already top quality material and somehow manages to turn it inward and in his own unique way elevate it to another level entirely. With a relentless beat and a sonic force that is hard to describe with mere words the Tobias. remix of Vertere comes out of the gate like a runaway machine rapturously drunk on its own self awareness. It marches ever forward, full of fervor, and will surely be driving dance floors both large and small to the euphoric edge of the ecstatic state.

After a strong run of EPs in recent times, the bosses of the much loved Canadian label My
Favorite Robot return again to their own imprint with a strong follow-up release to their Glass To The End EP released earlier this year.

The accomplished trio of Jared Simms, James Teej and Voytek Korab has become synonymous with emotive, synth heavy tracks that are much more than functional club offerings. As well as releasing on their own label, they have dropped releases on the likes of Sasha's Last Night on Earth, No.19 Music, Visionquest, and Life & Death.

The Panoptikon EP, named after a type of institutional building designed by English philosopher and social theorist Jeremy Bentham in the late 18th century. The concept of the design is to allow a single watchman to observe inmates of an institution without the inmates being able to tell whether or not they are being watched. Although it is physically impossible for the single watchman to observe all cells at once, the fact that the inmates cannot know when they are being watched means that all inmates must act as though they are watched at all times, effectively controlling their own behaviour constantly. This EP plays deeply with this idea in typical robot fashion.

Stunning opener 'Cast' is an epic techno influenced house track, lush with shimmering synths and live drums creating tension, much in the spirit of 90's electronica. Breaking through like sun through cloud, though, are brightly glowing chords that really add a celestial air to proceedings, with powerful vocals sprinkled throughout deepening the story. It's a refreshingly original track that sounds like little else and is sure to make for some standout moments on the floor in the coming weeks.

Then comes 'Manifesto,' a playful mid tempo prowler with myriad synths squealing, glowing and spread through the arrangement. You are trapped right at the heart of it all as these spritely lines bring a real sense of life and colour to the track, as well as imbuing it with a sombre sense of futurism. At the center of the recording is a tongue in cheek vocal that intones "selling out is the new underground", bringing a true light heartedness to proceedings while balancing the darker elements. The track's apex delivers in true My Favorite Robot spirit, and solidly brings the whole trip back down to earth resulting in a truly unique experience.

This is a small but perfectly formed two track EP that once again showcases the trio's ability to make genuine, emotionally resonant electronic music sure to stand the test of time.

The impressive Canadian label @Eternal-Drive-Rec approaches their new release featuring @Subjected and @Obstruct we picked our choice cut for this DT:Premiere by label boss @JayZoney.

This whirring and floor focused remix is pushing forward from the start, with muted looping tones providing a sense of tension. Adding some rough cut textures it plays with a darker atmosphere, but the relentless power makes it a peak time monster track in anyone’s book.

Detroit label @DystopianRhythm sent us their latest offering from previous DT mix guest and @ASRecordings bossman from Mexico, @IsraelToledo. We selected “Radon” for this DT:Premiere taken from the forthcoming EP titled “Elements.”

A quirky and hypnotic tone gets underway from the word go, with a muted rolling lead and sturdy beat. Soft metallic sounds and scraping textures fill up the mix with some well executed hats and claps, merging the idea of melody with a dancefloor destroyer. An unusual combination that is no doubt a winner for us.

This DT:Premiere comes from new Milwaukee artist Construct (@cnstrcttechno) who we have high hopes for after hearing this EP.

“Module02” has a tough, floaty and stripped back sound. Laced with some engaging melodic work, this was a stand out track for us that can really draw you in and space you out.
