B.B. King recorded his version of "The Thrill Is Gone" in June 1969 for his album Completely Well. King's version is a slow twelve-bar blues notated in the key of B minor in 4/4 time. The song's polished production and use of strings marked a departure from both the original song and King's previous material.

Track 2 of Melatonin Montage.  (DOC - Drug of Choice) Written in 2012; re-written in 2017; recorded in 2018.  Mastered in 2020.  This is version 5.

Track 5 of Melatonin Montage.  Second persona.

Save Yourself

Background:  Pregnant wife gets arrested for a drug deal with an undercover narcotics officer and sent to drug court.  After a short period of time, she fails multiple drug screens without admitting, and they send her to rehab for a year.  The husband oscillates between supporting her and distancing himself, and he's taken both of the children.  Quickly, she realizes that rehab is her last chance.  If she wipes out, she'll be kicked out of Drug court and sentenced to at least two years of prison in which case she will most certainly lose her children including the unborn child and her husband.  This song is about her forced acceptance and all of the fear surrounding it from her perspective.

If I had to describe the style of this track, I'd call it 9 inch Floyd Beatle tool.

This is the third version.  The first version had a dull sound.  Did some EQ work, toned back some of the echo, changed the guitar.  Then I toned back the background vocals, and cleaned up the baritone vocals.  I like it.  It's like Pink Floyd mixed with a lot of extra darkness and the harshness of NIN, and the likability of the Beatles.  This is persona 1 in Melatonin Montage -- the addicted spouse.  It's a slower and deeper version of DOC.
