Deantoni Parks is an American new wave/avant-garde/experimental drummer, songwriter, film director, actor and record producer. He is the founder, producer and drummer of the New York band KUDU, and one-half of the writing duo Dark Angels with producer and keyboardist Nick Kasper, also a member of KUDU.

DJ GRAN SPORT is an artist who spent most of his life transient between Chicago, Illinois & Memphis, Tennessee. Since a young age, SPORT would travel between the two cities he calls home collecting mixtapes and inspiration on his travels.
Living much of his life feeling like an outcast, SPORT recalls the fact that he never felt fully accepted or apart of either scene but would often observe from a distance and regularly attended rap events in Memphis and House parties in Chicago to gain inspiration as a fly on the wall.
His years producing alone helped him piece together a sound that can be easily recognised as a collision of the two cities sonically but also a sound that was rarely touched upon in his time and a style that even today is uniquely his own.
In his own words the Memphis House release was originally made for the long drive back to Chicago after visiting family in Memphis, something to remind him of home and at the same time keep him awake and alert.

This collision of lo-fi house rhythms laced with Memphis rap's gully/dark soundscapes set the groundwork for the Memphis House series that was originally released on 40 cassettes in 2004 by DJ GRAN SPORT's cousin.
Sadly the release was meet with little to no acclaim and the release along with DJ GRAN SPORT's love for producing slowly diminished.

By pure luck a friend of the Cosmic family came across one of these rare cassettes at a boot sale in Chicago in 2017 and sent it to us to see if we knew anything about the artist. We were instantly blown away by what we heard and we're in awe at the age of the productions and unknown nature of the artist and his music.

We decided to reach out via the outdated email found on the back of the cassette and miraculously after 6 months without a reply we received a confused and surprised email from the man himself.
After a few weeks of talks he gave us the green light to re-issue his Memphis House series and sent us a whole range of material that has never been heard by anyone but himself and his cousin since 2004.
This is the first of many releases to unearth and demystify the music of DJ GRAN SPORT.

All tracks are re-edited/remixed by DJ GRAN SPORT between 1995-2004.

Yesterday we awoke to the devastating news that one of our dear friends Reuben Samuel Winters [Totems] has sadly left us. 

Reuben was one of the most beautiful souls we've ever had the chance of knowing. He was a sweet, caring, open hearted/minded and constantly positive individual. Even though he was dealing with a lot personally he always had a smile on his face and endless amounts of love to give. He was a huuge inspiration for us growing up in Auckland and one of the most talented individuals to emerge from the New Zealand music scene in many moons.

After hearing about his passing while on the other side of the world we immediately connected with him the only way possible at the time which was through his music. This mix which he recorded for us back in 2017 was originally only released on our mixcloud and shares an insight into the heart and mind of this beautiful individual and brought tears to our eyes while listening. We felt that for anyone out there who knew and loved him this mix would provide a perfect soundtrack to reminisce on his memory. 

Thank you for your inspiration, love, music and energy Reuben.
You will live on forever in our hearts / minds and speakers.
