Matthew Styles Mixdown Showreel

Dinky delves further into her Chilean roots while softly embedding the rhythm of the night with next single ‘Blind’ from the album ‘Dimension D’.  Inspired by old Jazz of the 30s and 40s, Dinky weaves a beguiling story with the acoustic swing imbued with her own electronic touch. Stepping up for the first remix are part-time collaborators Hreno and The Mole who deliver the MHMD Remix stripping almost entirely the original’s voice and melody, instead leading with a carnivalesque drum groove and frayed, oscillating synths. Scandinavian disco lord Prins Thomas keeps the melody in tact but encases it in a framework of spaceout spooky disco for his ‘Diskomiks’ and fantastic moody Dub.

Alejandra Del Pilar Iglesias Rivera was named Dinky by her sister at birth. Born and raised in Santiago, Chile, as a child she studied Ballet and the Suzuki method of piano before relocating to New York to become a contemporary dancer.

Her drive to make music brought her to Berlin a decade ago where she quickly became a dominant force in dance music, making her mark through releases on Carpark, Cocoon, Ostgut, and the critically acclaimed ´Anemik´ album in 2009 on Mathew Jonson´s Wagon Repair. Her fifth studio album, ‘Dimension D’ on Visionquest sees her evolve into singer-songwriter and performer and take on a new musical direction.

Chris Hreno and The Mole are both revered Canadian producers residing in Berlin who have joined forces in the past on remixes for various labels including Turbo Recordings, Haunt, and Souvenir. The Mole has had prolific solo output including his exceptional debut album on Wagon Repair ‘As High As The Sky’. Hreno has made a recent comeback to production with EPs on Sound Architecture and Meander.

Prins Thomas is widely regarded as a pioneer of the space-disco sounds emanating from his native Norway. Joining forces with Hans-Peter Lindstrøm in 2003, the pair both have a background in bands - Prins being an accomplished bass player - and they run and release music on own labels Feedelity, Full Pupp and Internasjonal.

Making their first appearance on the label, Venezuelan deep house masters Sergio Munoz and Israel Sunshine aka Fur Coat are the next to release on the mighty Hot Creations. Title track ‘There’s No Time’ sees the darker side of the talented duo for an epic experience on the dance floor with deep growling basslines complemented with powerful electronic keys and dramatic builds. On the B-side Hot Creations favourite wAFF delivers a stellar and storming ‘Warehouse Remix’ picking up the pace with added vocals and percussion, packed with all the sonic energy we have come to expect from the young producer. Last up the Fur Coat duo deliver another golden original. ‘Together’ takes it deeper once again with a rumbling bassline and hypnotic synths and keys flowing through the layers to stimulate the senses.

Fur Coat previously remixed Russ Yallop’s ‘The Crossroads’ followed by their debut EP ‘Space Ballad’, featuring an unforgettable edit by TEED. However it would be their release ‘You and I’ featuring vocals from Cari Golden that would put the name Fur Coat on the map. At the end of 2012 they released their huge debut album ‘Mind Over Matter’ on Crosstown Rebels, with further ventures on labels such as Bpitch, Rebellion, Southern Fried Records, Noir, Get Physical and My Favorite Robot.

wAFF has rapidly gone strength to strength in the past few years after being taken under the wing of Jamie Jones, Lee Foss and Richy Ahmed. First coming to everyone’s attention with the huge ‘Jo Johnson’ EP, wAFF has gone on to acquire a heavy touring schedule and his more recent ‘Puke It Up’ EP released on the label only cemented his career in the industry further. Alongside his home label wAFF has also been releasing and remixing for labels such as Cocoon Recordings, Resonance Recordings and Rinse.

To listen to Luca Cazal describe his forthcoming EP; his first solo offering after being involved in some of the biggest and most profile releases of recent times, including Infinity Ink, Luca C & Brigante, Invisible Cities and of course global mega outfit Hot Natured, is to eavesdrop on a producer breaking through with a singular vision, taking aim directly at the dance floor.

"With my first EP I wanted to show different sides of my musical output, whilst keeping to the spectrum of club music" says Luca. With a vault of various studio projects to his name, Luca embarks on a quest of self-discovery with his first solo release on Crosstown Rebels. "I seem to have found myself involved with so many different projects in recent times so with my EP it was liberating to be left to roam free." he continues.

Title track Mariri is a voyage of tightly programmed classic tech-house that reaches its apex amongst its echoing eerie vocals. Indeed the vocal started life as a field recording made by Luca in Peru, a constant inspiration in his work. The bare murky beats of the EP’s lead track are remixed by Detroit mainstay Stacey Pullen with further rasps of raw production.

Continuing to hover on the edge of techno, the analogue offering “The Bullfrog”, co-produced with Hot Creations new talent Mark Jenkyns, projects the EP further onto the dark dance floor.

Ending with his collaboration with BL_NK SP_C_S, Luca adds the perfect tone to the passion filled vocals, that expertly wraps this exciting and varied EP.

Where there is little doubt that Luca Cazal’s past productions helped forge his musical foundation, this EP of elegant simplicity, strengthens not only the freewheeling spirit of the scene’s leading independent label, but is the perfect showcase for the rapidly emerging Luca Cazal.

Having requested the parts of the original track, the intrepid duo travelled back in time to the year 1991, set up their samplers and got busy with the breakbeats and euphoric synth pads.

“I see Techno and House as an intrinsic part of day to day culture here in Berlin. So many lives and lifestyles (r)evolve around this music. Mine included. (In Berlin,) Techno and House inspire a level of identification and loyalty which I still find amazing. I also see a difference in how people deal with this music here compared to other cities where music can be very hype driven and there’s a pressure to innovate. In Berlin, Techno and House are more vented on a constant level without being questioned too much. It’s tried and tested — loved for exactly what it is.”

“I decided to call my album Folk because I feel that we all work with a sonic vocabulary that was developed by a relatively small set of pioneers 20 or 30 years ago, that took their cues from disco which was influenced by R&B, Funk, Soul, etc, down to the most primal ritualism of tribal drums. This sort of traditionalism appears to have been passed on from generation to generation with everyone adding their own perspective to it, thus making it more difficult to trace it all back to a source. One can argue that a lot of it is passed through records but I feel the most important ways of experiencing, enjoying and learning about the music happens inside a club. I also call this Folk as the blueprint of this music was laid out on what were originally cheap instruments from a dusty thrift store — in 1985, the TB-303 was the equivalent of a worn out acoustic guitar. Today this is reflected by the immense and accessible power of creation found in a $500 laptop running a crack of Reason or Ableton.”

As the Summer draws to a close Serge Devant returns once more to Damian Lazarus’s Crosstown Rebels with the highly infectious ‘This Moment’ EP. Serge original tracks are accompanied by a great Dinky remix, to complete this great package.

Opening up the EP with ‘This Moment’, Devant has created a track that implores the listener to stop and take in all the vibrations, effects and melodies. This is a piece of music that intricately weaves together a hefty bass, curious sounds and an addictive horn. Pay close attention to ‘In Time’ and you will be absorbed once more in an enchanting world where all you can do is follow the rhythm of the drums. On the flip and Dinky adds her signature vocals, and hooky synth stabs creating a deep and textural remix of ‘This Moment’.

Closely following the release of her critically acclaimed album ‘Valor’, trained musician Dinky releases the second single from the album on Crosstown Rebels. The stunning ‘Slowly’ also gets the remix treatment from fellow Panorama Bar favourites and Berliners Matthew Styles and Radio Slave.

‘Slowly’, like most of the tracks on the album is centred around Dinky’s illustrious vocals. Resident Advisor said of the vocals “[I can see that I'm losing you slowly] is as poignant as the song's fragile piano”

Matthew Styles is a highly respected DJ and producer who as the first label manager of Crosstown Rebels has since made his way as a producer in his own right releasing on the likes of Ostgut Ton and his own Running Back that he runs with Gerd Janson. His remix takes the song to euphoric heights with it’s infectious bassline and impressive disposition. Dinky reveals that “Matthew knew the song and its meaning so well that he captured its spirit perfectly.”

Matt Edwards aka Radio Slave is also back on the label since his highly celebrated remix of Aphrohead last year. Owner of Rekids, Matt recently released ‘Vision’, which celebrated ten years of the label. Here for his first remix he delivers a pulsating beast, intricate in its ethereal chords and vocals. For his second remix he conjures a stripped down, minimalistic version with broken percussion and fervid synths for a beautiful and compelling effect.

Matt Edwards drops his eagerly anticipated debut Radio Slave album ‘Feel The Same’ via his Rekids imprint in September.

Easily his most recognisable nom de plume, Radio Slave was initially Matt’s pseudonym for remixes, with early reinterpretations of Kylie Minogue and New Order leading into frequent work for both major and independent labels. He’s now indisputably one of House and Techno’s most in-demand remixers, whilst original Radio Slave productions have gone on to appear via reputable imprints like Running Back, R&S, Ostgut Ton, Nonplus and Work Them Records.
Instrumental in supporting the music and careers of artists such as Nina Kraviz, Spencer Parker, Gerd Janson, and many others via his label Rekids - Edwards is held in high regard for his A&R abilities and has also established numerous other renowned labels such as Pyramids Of Mars, Cabin Fever, and The Double R. Now, more than 10 years since Rekids' inception and with over 100 releases under its belt, the influential figure announces the release of his debut Radio Slave album; a masterpiece of sophisticated electronic music that evokes the early spirit of dance music yet continues to forge his reputation as a cutting edge and innovative producer.

The album is a culmination of years as a DJ, producer and remixer; with influences spanning a range of genres such as breaks and jungle, acid, Balearic, ambient, dub, Chicago and also vocal samples exemplary of the Radio Slave sound. Opening with the beatless ‘2nd Home’, with its murky tones and field recordings, the album navigates between syncopated beats and ethereal voices as found in
‘Forana’, as well as screeching synths and moody basslines like in ‘Trans’.

More high tempo cuts like ‘Geisterstadt’ see Edwards shift towards electro, whereas heady break beats lay the foundation for ‘With You’. Alongside the album’s title track ‘Feel The Same’, ‘No Words / Just
This’ is one of the most dance floor focused cuts with its driving energy and metallic synths, while ‘Axis’ and ‘Draw’ see the producer venture towards a more minimal aesthetic.

Under his various guises Matt Edwards has continued to demonstrate how musically diverse he is as a producer without any compromise in quality. His REKID moniker features more of his downtempo work with a album release on Soul Jazz, not to mention timeless releases like ‘Next Stop Chicago’ and ‘Lost Star’ which still remain iconic today. The ‘RedHead’ LP saw the producer demonstrate his ability to collage sounds under The Machine, whilst alongside close friend Joel Martin the Quiet Village project is cinematic and heavily sample based, exploring evocative and understated soundscapes.

Jamie Jones & Lee Foss’ Hot Creations offshoot, Hot Waves, releases its third stupendous compilation this September. The 14-track compilation is released digitally on the 24th September. There’s a double-pack 12” featuring six killer tracks from the compilation released on the 10th September.

Set up as a platform for burgeoning producers the Hot Waves compilations have gone from strength to strength. Giving a voice to many new producers as well as stalwarts from the Hot Creations stable, this third Volume is probably the strongest yet.

This volume features previous artists from Hot Waves compilations such as Alexis Raphael with his call to arms: ‘Warhorn’, French producer Julien Sandre teams up with Italian Dast for the brilliant ‘Wanna Be’, another driving house monster perfect for Hot Waves! Wildkats, are back teaming up with TBoy to produce the acid monster ‘Denied’, also Dirty Channels make their second Hot Waves appearance with the excellent ‘So Special’.

Hot Creations artists Lee Foss, Miguel Campbell, Robert James, Richy Ahmed, Mark Jenkyns, Digitaria, Funky Fat and wAFF also make appearances alongside new artist’s such as Lee Webster’s hypnotic soul- infused slice of dirty house, ‘Spend All Her Money’, new Italian artist Bartolemeo delivers the psychedelic slow breaks of ‘Jean Is Not Death’. Tom Ruijg’s drum-tastic ‘Space Frase’ and 80’s inspired ‘Zohra’ by Guilhem and Remi Mazet.

Robert James deliver another battle weapon in the James arsenal with fantastic ‘Body Movement’ whilst wAFF delivers the sublime ‘Sunshine’, a fantastic slice of hedonistic house. Miguel Campbell and Richy Ahmed come together to make the electro-inspired ‘Tell Me Why’, whilst Lee Foss delivers another corker in the form of ‘Life On Mars’. Mark Jenkyns goes from strength to strength from his latest Hot Creations release with ‘Moola’. Finally there is an exclusive remix by Funky Fat of Digitaria’s huge ‘Crazy Life’! A veritable feast of beats and basslines!
