Lemongrass is back! On time with the beginning of the summer mastermind Roland Voss endows us with a new longplayer. Fittingly he named the album "Papillon", which is the French word for butterfly. And likewise butterflies flutter the 14 songs in weightless buoyancy through 70 minutes playing time. An album made for a joyful summer day full of bright colours and positivity, radiating the zest of life. "Papillon" slides through the world of Lounge Couture without even touching the banality of plagiarism and clichés. Stylistically versatile with a pinch of Swing & Jazz, a sprinkle of Latin and a garnish of Groove and even Deep House, Roland Voss manages to keep the balance between rhythmic, uplifting tracks and cinematic moods of Chillout & Ambient pieces for daydreaming and relaxation. Follow trustfully the Lemongrass guidance, you will remain poised and fascinated throughout.  

A significant impact on "Papillon"s high level production is the Russian singer Jane Maximova. Over the years it has become a good tradition, that Roland Voss introduces fresh and unknown talents. Just think of great vocalist Karen Gibson Roc and Skadi appearing on several albums such as "The 5th Dimension", "Skydiver" and "Pour l´amour". Now it is up to Jane Maximova to enrich the musical cosmos of Lemongrass with her velvety voice. Without any doubt Roland Voss is a master of pictorially sound creations. He is an old hand who knows how to play with his skills. This is meant in the truest and best sense of the word, because "Papillon" is already the 13th album in 16 years. Considered as one of those groundbreaking artists of the genre, people around the world love following, because everything Roland Voss drops, resonates with the same level of integrity and mastery. Especially in Japan, USA and Russia a huge amount of followers has formed, considering Lemongrass as one of the leading Lounge & Electronica acts. 

Only 9 month ago the previous album "Sirius" saw the light of day, rightly reviewed as one of the best Lemongrass releases ever. The album brought us closer to the stars in a musical and visual dimension. Even on "Papillon" the long journey to the far away galaxies reverberates here and there. Like snatches of memories heavenly Ambient sounds pop up, taking form as spherical creations. But before we get lost in far away universes, Roland Voss beams us back to Earth, directly to our favourite beach. 52 weeks, 52 radio shows, transmitted around the world on 60 + leading stations, in which Paul van Dyk brought over 600 tracks to the ears of VONYC Sessions ever-ready listenership in 2013. That though was the easy part! The audio artisan’s end-of-year challenge is to refine those playlists down into the most requested best of the best. From twelve richly packed months of Radio tracklists, he’s landscaped those first-among-equal tunes into ‘the-year-that-was’ mix – PvD’s definitive 2013 encapsulation.

The first mix heads straight into the thick of it, flashing back to summer highs with PvD & Arnej’s techno-rific ‘We Are One 2013’. From there van Dyk reaches multiple points on the stylistic compass, building sonic mood and range into the mix’s map. Las Salinas’ ‘Say Another What’ brings tech eclecticism, whilst the deep-dive of ‘Immersion’ from Omnia and Alexander Popov’s autumnal ‘Moscow Subway’ splice in deliciously moody prog-trance shades. 

Sweeping up the midsection comes Alex M.O.R.P.H. & Jerome Isma Ae’s propellant ‘Bang’, hotly chased by his new VANDIT slam-dunk ‘Magnum’. Through the infectious, intense frequencies of W&W/Ummet Ozcan co-production ‘The Code’ and the vocal enigma of Nick The Kid & The Nameless Girl’s ‘Bright Light’, ‘VONYC Sessions’ revisits the spring. Delivering the mix its conclusion, Paul invokes the atmospheric aura of his own ‘Lost In Berlin’ and the self-propelled drum drama of Simon Patterson’s ‘The One’.  
 
“Compiling the annual VONYC Sessions album is one of the most demanding, yet fulfilling tasks I do in a year”, says van Dyk. “Selecting the best of the best from your most requested tracks in any 12 month period - especially one as alive with good music as 2013, is always a challenge. Disc 2 opens in inspired mash-up mode, fusing Ferry Corsten’s latest ‘Diss’ with the emotional sear of PvD & Plumb’s ‘I Don’t Deserve You’. ‘Open My Eyes’ makes it a van Dyk double and again opens the mix’s themes up wide. In quick succession the wistful trance of Protoculture’s ‘Talisman’, Heatbeat & Chris Schweizer’s tech–elec threat ‘Nasty’ and Estiva’s rapacious ‘Dino Drums’ all take their turn to hold sway. 

‘VONYC’s mercury continues to rise with the introduction of some pure form trance courtesy of Giuseppe Ottaviani’s ‘Earthbeat’ and Matt Davey’s much-spun spin on the classic ‘Greece ‘2000’. The Christian Burns/PvD team-up ‘We Are Tonight’ and the big-room bombast of ‘Super Dad’ (the latest from Richard Durand) keep both tempo & tone spiked. Its final minutes bring the climactic audio combustion of Shato & Paul Rockseek’s early summer club-crusher ‘Deer Friends’, Maarten De Jong’s fierce ‘Face The World’ and Cosmic Gate crowd-rousing/rocking ‘So Get Up’. Our album" Life on the Roadblog" is about doing our first journeys, being on the road and moving crossroads. No looking back, leaving things behind and running free, with only dust in the eyes. Walking the highway towards the big unknown with all light or dark it could bring.

Every place that we came has its moment. With all the atmospheres and images in our minds, Saafi Brothers listen closer, reflective in their vision and interact with each other through their strong musical relationship.
