Jazz-O-Tech's new radio programme on Radio Raheem is called This is Techno Jazz and is a unique opportunity to get to know a new musical genre that combines techno and jazz. The programme is presented by Mattia Prete, label manager of the Berlin and Milan-based record label, and aims to introduce the public to this innovative music scene that is gaining ground in Europe and around the world.

> The programme will be broadcast every last Friday/Saturday of the month, and Mattia Prete will present the best tracks in the techno-jazz genre, with artists and producers from the international scene. 

The first star of the show had the honour to guess Swiss drummer Arthur Hnatek, followed by Wroclaw Zimpel, Raffaele Attanasio and Eduardo De La Calle, four big names on the international music scene.

Mattia Prete returns to Jazz-o-Tech with a new EP that emphasises the power of collaboration. His dark, abstract Eruption EP blends electronic and jazz sounds and features musicians from the label roster across five edgy tracks.
Prete has been expanding his musical horizons in recent years. After building a solid foundation in techno, he has begun to work across a wider world of electronic and organic sounds while also working closely with formally trained musicians, plenty of whom feature on this EP. 
 
This world has allowed him to express himself more freely and authentically while adapting and responding to new and contrasting settings. From performing at the Montreux Jazz Festival with Daniel Calvi as 505 to DJing in underground venues like Tresor in Berlin, he continues to make innovative connections between different worlds while continuing to bring diverse artists together on this label.
 
As always with his productions, Prete went wherever the music took him with this EP. It follows no trends, is packed with expressionism and draws on deeply personal emotions while once again highlighting that techno and jazz can communicate together in many different ways. The results are cinematic and fluid, run through with dreamy synths but also built on direct and clubby rhythms with an industrial undertone.

Opener 'Nebula' Ft. Aki Himanen and Aleksi Kinnunen is a widescreen sound with live jazz drums and pained sax lingering in the air above fizzing synths. It's roomy but packed with details and ever-increasing drama. 'Solar Approach' ft Alegros rides on rubbery kick drums and has sweeping chords that reach up to the sky where twinkling melodies awake. There's a halfway switch up when breakbeats change the groove and sombre trumpets sweep across the mix.
'Subway Juice' ft. TUN is much more direct and physical. The sax notes are busy and restless, the drums crash hard and the cymbals splash loudly while acid motifs and busy melodic scales play out in a wild frenzy. 'Cactus' brings a punchy jungle rhythm and icy synths bring unease and edginess to the oversized bass, then Prete collaborates with Daniel Calvi and Leonie on 'Palettes'. It's another bold and in-your-face collision of brass, bass guitar, punishing drums and low-end menace that drives into darkness.

Taking inspiration from the freeform creative nature of those two musical worlds, artists on the label mix tradition with modernity, improvisation with experimentation, and create a new sound known as techno-jazz. Modern music needs to be ambitious. It must aim to deliver a musical message which is one step beyond what has already been heard. It must take you on a new musical journey into unknown dimensions and emotions. That is the Jazz-o-Tech mission.

Mattia Prete has been at the heart of Techno Jazz a new musical movement where the freeform improvisation and instrumentation of jazz meets the futuristic and hypnotic mechanics of techno. Prete has been working in this niche as a DJ, live performer, and producer, but also as manager of Jazz-o-Tech, the innovative and well-known label based in Berlin and Milan that is home to many upcoming visionary talents.

Prete now lays out his unique vision of Techno Jazz on a first EP under his own name for Jazz-o-Tech itself. Three of the forward-thinking tracks are collaborations with musicians Prete admires and respects, and one is a remix from Reeko the Spanish techno producer.

After releasing Silent Rain EP as part of the Beat Movement duo, Prete now fully steps out with a bold representation of his take on the fascinating techno-jazz sound. It is cinematic and expansive, heady yet physical, and builds bridges between the famous Berlin sound and the exciting new developments happening in his native Italian scene.

'Moon, Please Don't Go Away' with composer and multi-instrumentalist Alberto Fiori pairs heavy, spacious bass hits with a rousing lead synth. It is epic, suggestive, and a real call to arms before the pummeling kick drums charge into cosmic battle. 'The Bright Side' with the great French trans-jazz band Bada-Bada slowly but surely gets you in a trance. The drums are powerful and liner, but the jazz sax up top is loose and liquid. It unfolds with increasing tension before the energy dissipates and you've left adrift in space next and the sax returns as a more friendly presence. Mattia then links with jazz pianist Uri Gincel and producer and guitar player Daniel Calvi for 'Burning Man,' which was previously a part of the This is Techno Jazz Vol. 1 compilation and is a deep, dark, and brooding track full of eerie suspense.

Daniel Calvi is also the collaborator on 'Stein'. It is a track dense with ideas - the train-track drums, the tortured keys, the waves of synth, then a stunning acoustic guitar solo that brings beauty and hope. Last of all, dark industrial techno maestro Reeko remixes 'Stein' into a thumping and cavernous groove with twisted synths that drag you into a dystopian future.

This is a landmark EP from an artist who is helping to take techno into innovative new realms.

For this episode of Solco we invited Mattia Prete, DJ and live performer based in Berlin.

His mind and music are lost in cinematic worlds where the free nature of jazz and the hypnotic repetition of techno trap you in the moment. He is always searching for deep connections to the mind, body and spirit, and as such is one of the most vital artists in avant-garde electronica.

In the German techno capital, he runs his own party ‘This is Techno Jazz’, has his own studio ‘Garden 505’ and runs two forward-looking labels: aurora. which builds bridges between scenes and sounds from all over Europe, and jazz-o-tech, which fuses jazz experimentation with techno soul in fresh new sounds.

As a DJ, Prete prepares meditative and hypnotic atmospheres, always built on strongly propulsive grooves. He has a wide sound and uses silence as a tool to increase the dynamics of his music.

Mattia Prete returns to Jazz-o-Tech with a new EP that emphasises the power of collaboration. His dark, abstract Eruption EP blends electronic and jazz sounds and features musicians from the label roster across five edgy tracks. Prete has been expanding his musical horizons in recent years. After building a solid foundation in techno, he has begun to work across a wider world of electronic and organic sounds while also working closely with formally trained
musicians, plenty of whom feature on this EP.

'Solar Approach' ft Alegros rides on rubbery kick drums and has sweeping chords that reach up to the sky where twinkling melodies awake. There's a halfway switch up when breakbeats change the groove and sombre trumpets sweep across the mix.

Jazz-o-Tech is a label that draws on the rich heritage of two of the most visionary and experimental genes in music: jazz and techno. Taking inspiration from the freeform creative nature of those two musical worlds, artists on the label mix tradition with modernity, improvisation with experimentation, and create a new sound known as techno-jazz.

Mattia Prete is a Berlin-based DJ, producer, band member, and label manager whose ambitious electronic music is deeply influenced by club styles such as techno and electronica, merged with intricate jazz rhythms and organic instrumentation.

As a DJ, Prete has a versatile sound, and his sets tell a sonic story, taking the audience on a transcendental journey that keeps mind and body engaged on the dancefloor. His mixes incorporate intelligent, dreamy, fluid, and eclectic genres, including techno, jazz, IDM, tribal, and broken beat, all built on strong, propulsive grooves.

In the studio, Prete’s work is infused with sci-fi futurism and the immersive scope of film soundtracks, producing a unique sound that has gained international acclaim. He debuted with “Moon, Please Don’t Go Away” in 2020 on Jazzotech, the label he manages, and has since released the vinyl EP “Life is Waiting” on the experimental label Faith Disciplines, as well as singles like “Palettes” and “Zamovliannia,” featuring classical musicians from Dnipro’s Philharmonic.

Prete recently co-founded the 505 band project with Daniel Calvi, exploring electronic rhythms with a sensitive trip-hop sound and incorporating live electronics and organic instruments for a trippy, textured experience.

As label manager and A&R of Jazzotech, Prete has laid the foundation for a new club scene called Techno Jazz, producing original music and live events featuring jazz and electronic musicians.

One of his most notable projects is the double LP “This is Techno Jazz,” featuring collaborations between artists like Stanislav Tolkachev with Finnish band Himanen & Kinnunen, Katharina Ernst with Spanish techno innovator Reeko, Tensal with Turin jazz band TUN, Fabrizio Rat, and trombonist Gianluca Petrella. This project also inspired a party of the same name, held at Kantine Am Berghain and Sage Beach, with legends like Matthew Herbert, Fabrizio Rat, and Studnitzky.

Prete has played at renowned clubs and festivals, including Montreux Jazz Festival, Fusion Festival, Kantine Am Berghain, Jazz:Re:Found Festival, and Tresor Berlin.
