I started it before to go to vacation in the month of may while my grandmother was still alive and very sick. I only had the intro (0:44 seconds), few notes and ideas, without knowing for whom or what I was making it. My grandmother passed away five days after I went to vacation. Even If I knew that she was close to death due to her sickness, I was not expecting this to happen that soon. She was and still is a pillar of my education beside my mother. As many, she grew up in deep poverty, and was beaten by her family during her childhood, except her mother which was a saint according to her words. 

She started working at the age of 8, and never stopped since. She gave birth to 8 children, one of them died while the birth process. Four girls, and three boys. I have spent most of my time with her since I was born. She shared with me the deepness of her heart. She educated me and always encouraged me regarding my musical journey. She never stopped trusting me and also became a biblical christian few years after my own conversion (which is not easy when one is raised with a catholic background).

 We talked about life, we talked about death, we talked about morality, we talked about the tragedy of this world. And overall we talked about Jesus. Our only hope in this world. We hold by faith the conviction that death is not the end, and that he gave his life to save lost humans like us. His love has reached the deepness of our hearts. 

Before to compose the rest of the piece, I prayed as always before every kind of work. The first chords came and traced the way for the rest of the composition. 

At 1:12, the choral progression represents the departure of the soul to heaven. I chose minor chords because - even if it’s glorious to be taken there - God cries for those who stay as well. 

At 1:40, you can heart the staccato violins, spinning around the choral progression. Those represents the angels surrounding the soul of my grand mother while her ascension. 

At 2:08, you can hear the long violin melody. This represent both the pain of my heart, and the pain of Christ. The main tragedy of the piece. 

At 3:56 : This represent the arriving of my grandmother into heaven. It’s glorious and peaceful. 

At 4:21 : The outro represent the pain we will always carry before to see her again.

Anyway, I wanted to thank you all for being there for me. Since I started this journey, I have been amazed to have you in my life. We are more than 500 subs now. It's unbelievable. I'm nothing without you all! You make my life way better.

Mattia Cupelli is an Italian artist based in Rome, Italy.
His sound is influenced by genres as Post-Classical and Dark Ambient sounds to modern Experimental Electronic music and the world between.

Early works are mainly based on Soundtrack, Orchestral Music, and Modern Piano music, which makes himself known through his YouTube channel, which counts over 35 million plays and 130K subscribers.
 
His LP "UNDERNEATH" presents a new ambient/neo-classical sound infused with modern electronic sound. 
“Matching electronic components against a neo-classical sweep, his work recalls the likes of Nicolas Jaar or Ólafur Arnalds, with some Nils Frahm thrown in" (from CLASH Magazine) about ONWARDS Son of Marketing writes: “shows minimal and delicate ambient, evocative whispered vocals, growing rhythms in the second part and an impressive pathos”.

In 2019 releases "EP I" with some old pieces recomposed, followed by "EP II" in 2020, featured new obscure and dark tracks influenced by electronic contemporary music.

In 2021 releases RUINS with a new fresh ethereal sound, with a sense of ancient spirituality. Rock.it described as "a narrative so powerful as to drag into a plot that each of us generates according to our experiences".
