"past. present. future. and the gravity between them" follows the internal journey and reflections of a young boy, left behind as a baby by his parents when conflict between humans and robots erupted on the close-orbit space colony they called home. Found by a collective of robots that remained on the colony after all humans had relocated to Earth, he was raised as if he was their own.

Years have passed now, and as he has gotten older he has begun to ask questions. Who were his real parents? Are they still alive? Why did they leave him behind? Is Earth really as broken and dangerous as all the stories have made it seem? His community of robots does not have the answers he seeks, and any answer they do give him doesn't seem to temper his insatiable curiosity.

He's now faced with the struggle of how to figure out who he really is and what type of life lies ahead of him. He knows that if he wishes to find the answers to his questions, he himself must be the one to take action and accomplish his goals, even if that means leaving behind the life he has known until now.

This one might be a surprise? Dedicated to a new-born baby. Close friends of ours. My way of welcoming a new human being to our world. This triggers a lot of memories of the time when we were young (first) parents. Our kids change our whole life, but in a very good and satisfying way. In their first years, they totally depend on us and then they slowly start to walk on their own path. We still might have to assist them here and there, but one day, they will be grown up. They will always feel like our children. This will only end, when we finally pass. That was my heaviest emotion, when my father passed five years after my mother. I was nobody's child anymore. Enough with those heavy thoughts!!! Welcome Magalie! Please enjoy, this one is for you.

After an almost 6 year hiatus, and the break up of the audio-visual trio it had evolved into, Origamibiro returns with Miscellany, a body of work amassed during the years since the release of 2014’s Odham’s Standard.

Though the group never officially disbanded, a number of life-changing events meant it simply became impossible to continue together. As such, the project organically reverted back to the solo pursuits of composer Tom Hill. Fellow multi-instrumentalist Andy Tytherleigh, however, remains a strong collaborator.

Miscellany comprises a varied mixture of work, ranging from electroacoustic to orchestral chamber music. Drawing upon much of the found-sound style for which Origamibiro became known, the DIY approach to sampling and composing continues to play a central role in the process.

Exploration into the tangible nature of everyday objects and textures - both in and outside of the home - is a theme relished in much of Origamibiro’s work. Forest brambles and plastic toy Easter eggs are examined in surgical detail alongside the debris of demolished piano parts, to be repurposed into whatever sonic potential they offer up.

However, new additions to the instrumental palette - viola da gamba, piano, zither, singing bowl, glockenspiel, drum machines and gongs - contribute to an even broader timbre.

Miscellany will be released on Denovali, March 2021.
