After making a name for himself with a series of successful releases on labels such as Reggae Roast, Scotch Bonnet Records, Raider Records and Chopstick Dubplate, London based Digital Reggae/Dancehall producer Interrupt brings you the first release on his homegrown label INTERRUPT MUSIC.

Paying tribute to the digital reggae style of the late 1980s, this riddim EP showcases 5 brand-new cuts of the ‘Turn On the Heat’ riddim, featuring a host of top contemporary vocalists from around the world.

The title track features UK based artist Mowty Mahlyka AKA Dark Angel paying tribute to the new generation of Soundsystem culture. Mowty’s powerful ragga vocal on this fast-paced dancehall riddim makes for a hard-hitting track guaranteed to mash up any dancehall! 

Next up comes ‘Talking Parrot’ from acclaimed UK artist Parly B, which was included on his debut album ‘Lyrics Spree’ on Scotch Bonnet Records, receiving support from DJs such as David Rodigan
and Steve Lamaq. This track now gets a re-release alongside the other three new vocal cuts and version in 2021.

‘Follow Style’ features the vocal stylings of Spanish DJ queen Ponchita Peligros, who worked with Interrupt on their hit single ‘International Affair’ back in 2015. Ponchita’s unique voice and DJ vocal style brings a fresh and quirky take on the track, with lyrics inspired by Soundsystem culture and ruba-dub dancehall sessions!

The fourth track, ‘Josephine Calling’ brings together Italian singer Ras Mat-I, London-based MC Jago and Australian/Ugandan singer SK Simeon in a three-vocalist combination, featuring fast-chat lyrics
which tell the story of a girl named Josephine, paying tribute to Sanchez & Stinger Man’s ‘Hello Josephine’, which was one of the original cuts of the ‘Turn On the Heat’ riddim.

Finally, Interrupt delivers an instrumental version of the riddim, designed for DJs and vocalists to run live in the dancehall.

Producer Matt Interrupt from Reggae Roast Soundsystem has teamed up with south London MCs Deemas J and Mista Jago for their upcoming full length album ‘We Don’t Stop’ - due for release in late April 2023.

The second single ‘Keep the Faith’ is out on Friday 14th April, and features guest vocals from west Irish singer Cian Finn, who provides a positive and uplifting chorus, encouraging people to keep the faith in times of hardship and struggle.

Inspired by recent years of pandemics, lockdowns and economic hardship, Keep the Faith provides a much needed positive message,  warning people not to go astray and to instead focus on doing good in their community and helping others.

Deemas J and Mista Jago’s verses continue this theme, with Deemas warning people not to ‘fall into the dark’ with a killer fast chat style verse. Mista Jago’s verse then complements the two singers with a raw and heavy ragga style vocal.

Produced by Matt Interrupt, the 80s digital dancehall inspired riddim gives the song a hard and heavy undertone, designed to get the crowd moving in the dance!

Producer Matt Interrupt from Reggae Roast soundsystem has teamed up with south London MCs Deemas J and Mista Jago for the full length album ‘We Don’t Stop’!

This 9 track album is packed full of reggae and dancehall scorchers, with Deemas J showcasing his unique and varied vocal style alongside the raw and heavy ragga tones of Mista Jago. Together, the two MCs tackle a broad range of lyrical subjects and styles, backed by Interrupt’s contemporary take on late 80s and early 90s style dancehall riddims.

The album features guest appearances from Irish reggae and world music singer Cian Finn, providing vocals on the track ‘Keep the Faith’ and London based MC Clapper Priest, featuring on the title track ‘We Don’t Stop’, with additional backing vocals from Sarah Telman and horns by Papa B.

Y&D was a sublabel of Jah Tubby's studio during the late 80s and early 90s, home to singers such as Dixie Peach, Gadman, Little Clarkie, Sugar Dee, Frighty, Errol Bellott, Colonel Mite and Crucial Robbie (now of AFTV fame).

While Jah Tubby's sound was known for more spiritual steppas and rootsy music, the Y&D label was formed as an outlet for young and developing UK dancehall artists with a fresh 'nowadays' style.

Backed by the Offbeat Posse at Jah Tubby's studio in Hackney, the sound of these records is definitively UK digital dancehall. The riddims are simple, raw and heavy, accompanied by some of the finest up-and-coming singers of the UK dancehall scene in its prime.

Interrupt once again teams up with vocalist Donovan Kingjay for a cover version of Shinehead’s classic hit song ‘Strive’, originally released on Elektra Records in 1990.

After hearing Donovan KingJay singing the song live during many soundsystem sessions in London, Matt Interrupt decided to rebuild the riddim, staying faithful to the vibe of the original version, but giving it a cleaner, more modern production style for 2024.

The song features positive, inspiring lyrics, encouraging the youth to strive for their goals, and keep a positive mindset in the face of hardship; a message which is just as relevant today as it was in 1990!

The release also includes a full dub version, and an instrumental riddim version for selectors to run in the dance.

Producer Matt Interrupt comes with a brand new EP featuring three vocal cuts on a fast paced 80s style digital dancehall riddim, based on Wayne Smith’s ‘Cry for Love’.

The title track ‘Stop Me Again’ features the legendary dancehall artist Daddy Freddy, alongside south London MC Mista Jago. Daddy Freddy has been an unstoppable force on the reggae scene for years, recording his first album in 1986, and winning a Guinness world record in 1989 for world’s fastest MC.

‘Memory Lane’ features Zen Lewis, who has made a name for himself in the UK jungle scene over the last few years with a string of quality releases on labels such as Jungle Cakes. Memory Lane showcases Zen’s melodic and unforgettable vocal style, with lyrics reminiscing about a long lost relationship.

‘Visit’ features Tenor Youthman, who collaborated on Interrupt’s first ever full length album ‘We Rule the Dance’ back in 2016. ‘Visit’ is a light-hearted tune, with a vocal style reminiscent of Jamaican artist Nitty Gritty, who has been a long standing influence on Tenor’s vocal style.

Finally, the EP also includes an instrumental version for selectors and DJs to run in the dance!

Interrupt & Parly B bring you 'Computer Ting'. A dancehall tribute to Sonic the Hedgehog in a Sega Megadrive style!

Whilst working on a new dancehall riddim last year, Interrupt stumbled upon a familiar melody, the origins of which escaped him at the time. After asking on social media, who got back to him but none other than Parly B, who revealed that he had accidentally created a dancehall version of the Sonic the Hedgehog theme tune.

It was only right then that after the full riddim was finished, it was given to Parly B to voice, as a fellow Sonic the Hedgehog fan and long time musical collaborator.
