Balearic. Disco. Italo. House. These are the styles that forged Filippo Colonna Romano, aka Modula. The diverse musician has always drawn on a rich musical seam for inspiration. His latest album, Sounds from Montenuovo, calls upon a spread of sounds and styles. From the birdsong of the title piece, the listener finds themselves in the stripped electro-wave of “Party Crime” and “Night Warrior” with Pamina Chauveau offering impassioned vocals. The colder edges of emotions are exposed in the unsheathed funk of “The Anger” before the summer brightness and overarching warmth of “Looking At The Horizon”. Modula island hops from genre to genre, dipping into one sound before diving deep into another style to resurface with audio pearls. Tribal tones and melodic bursts come together in the exotic “Malicumbà”, a track which anticipates the pure synthesizer joy of the instrumental version of “Looking At The Horizon”. A vivid collection of imaginings from Romano’s studio, sounds that arrive via the clear waters of the Caribbean and the cinematic echoes of the 1980s. A voyage from beginning to end.

"Milagros del Ritmo is the third release of Harmonie Exotic, a label focused on reissues and compilations of obscure tracks.The producer Jose Manuel, already known for his releases on Optimo Records, Music for Dreams and other labels, has selected ten rare tracks from 1988 to 1991. Starting as a DJ, Jose Manuel has developed over the years a passion for vinyl collection. This passion has also turned into work by creating the above mentioned label with the aim of bringing back the art of the past.Milagros del Ritmo starts with the sexy voice of Debbie McKayle in “Necesito tu Amor”. Her vocal mood reminds us “Sueño Latino ” . The compilation continues with “Abadan” by Mondo Bagdad, who combined Arabic sounds with New Beat. Also in “Zena” (Dub) there are middle east and the first Chicago house influences. The next track “Mescla Del House”, released in very late 80’s, sees the Spanish vocal with the drum Roland TR-808. Then the compilation moves from Synth-pop with “Radio Arabesque” to the belearic downtempo with “Waves” by Ambionix and to EBM sounds with “Yoshua” by Danton's Voice .

Down The Hatch is given an 80s electrofunk “boogie dub” treatment, thanks to bubbling analog synths and old school drum machines. It is a catchy and funky exercise in less is more production.

Enter Planet Dust welcomes Frenchman in Berlin, Manuel Jesus aka @world_wild_web to the ranks with the first single from his upcoming LP, Transmutation. Having cut his teeth fronting proto-punk psyche groups in his teenage years, Jesus made several extended trips to India and relocated to Berlin where he set up a studio and joined the artist collective and DIY venue, Loophole. 

World Wild Web's organ and drum machine-led music nods to the global Cosmic continuum, and reminds me of Suicide, Rizan Sa'id, The Monks and more. 'Cursed Fruits' shows off Manuel's dark, nihilistic approach toward catchy organ pop.

Invisible Inc is over the moon to finally be announcing this long-awaited double album of new music by Secret Circuit.

Presented here are 21 new pieces (or 22 if you count the bandcamp-exclusive digital bonus) recorded between 2020 and 2022 which capture that spacey, otherworldly quality Secret Circuit is known for but they also very much veer into the warmer, earthier and generally more ambient textural territories of his E Ruscha V and Only Thingz work...an altogether softer sensibility. The fact that the second disc of the double album is primarily ambient further confuses the issue! But Secret Circuit this most definitely is!

From a plethora of demos (60+) Invisible Inc label boss GK Machine wanted to distill these down and explore a side of Ruscha's that he felt hadn't been heard before, focussing on Ruscha's more emotive yet at the same time experimental side. Is that a paradox? Well, let's say only very rarely do we hear modular synths doing something so human-sounding, and when these are juxtaposed alongside slide guitars, live bass and vocodered vocals, we have something very special indeed.

Then there's the artwork...all lovingly drawn by E Ruscha V himself and landing on our desk long after the record had gone into production and test pressings delivered and approved. The package is made complete with a double-sided colour insert with liner notes and another of Ruscha's mind-warping doodles. Oh and the liner notes are written in reverse so you'll need a mirror to read them. Of course they are!

To cut a long story short, everything about this release is archetypal classic Secret Circuit and couldn't be anyone else. A highpoint for the label in 2023, no doubt.
