Biography:

Paul has always had a passion for music at an early age, but it wasn't until 2001 that he bought himself his first set of decks after coming back inspired and influenced from the sounds of the Miami Winter Music Conference. Being a keen clubber himself, this led to attendance at all the well known festivals and gigs in the U.K and beyond, so as the years progressed Paul got more and more into modern day dance music.

To date, Paul has performed at some of Scotland’s top clubs including the Arches, Gatecrasher @ Room At The Top, Byblos, Sea, Blue, Keller Club and The Soundhaus, whilst also making his first international appearance’s in Ireland, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, 2 interstate tours of India and a Spellbinding Records label night in the USA, alongside artists such as Armin van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Andy Moor, Rank 1, Bryan Kearney, Ronski Speed, Sied van Riel, Organ Donors, Activa and Indecent Noise to name a few. Not limiting himself to one style, Paul’s sets feature rigorous tune selection which vary across the trance spectrum depending on the interaction with the crowd.

Paul promoted his own nights with a few friends in Glasgow such as Vibe, Synergy, Platinum and Rehab. With their main aim to offer something different to the Scottish clubbers, this resulted in several Scottish debut’s for the likes of John O’Callaghan, Aly & Fila, Menno de Jong, Giuseppe Ottaviani (Live), Stoneface & Terminal, Thomas Bronzwaer, Mat Zo, Amir Hussain, Chris Liebing, Anderson Noise, Axel Karakasis and Eric Sneo.

As a producer Paul’s tracks and remixes can be found under the mighty Dutch Armada stable on imprints such as A State Of Trance, Captivating Sounds, Coldharbour Recordings, Aropa Records, S107, fellow Dutch label Black Hole Recordings under their In Trance We Trust imprint and also on UK label’s Discover and Infrasonic Recordings. Featured several times on German label Vandit Records, some of the highlight’s include Paul’s first track ‘Totality’ which received big plays from Tiesto and  Paul van Dyk at the Winter Music Conference in Miami. ’Seize The Day’ was featured on Markus Schulz Top 40 of 2009, ‘Deal With It’ claimed the No.1 spot on the Trackitdown Top 100 Trance Chart, whilst also having remixed for Armada A-listers Markus Schulz, Dash Berlin and Dutch tech-trance masters Ernesto vs. Bastian. Paul’s tracks have gained huge support from the highest Dj elite including air plays on respected radio shows such as ASOT, Vonyc Sessions, Club Life, TATW, Corsten’s Countdown, GDJB, Planet Perfecto and BBC Radio 1. To date they have featured on CD compilations such as Cream, Godskitchen, Armada & Slinky.

Paul’s ‘Soundscape’ radio show is now in its 6th year and showcases the latest in trance, tech and progressive. You can tune in exclusively on Afterhours FM - www.ah.fm - 4th Tuesday of every month - (3pm GMT / 4pm CET).

2010 saw the launch of Paul's new record label 'Spellbinding Records' which crosses the boundaries of trance, techno, progressive and everything in between. With an ever growing scene of new dance music producers that go unnoticed, the main objective at Spellbinding is to unearth some new talent from the UK and beyond and get their tunes out there. The label will also feature some familiar names that are at the forefront of today’s scene. Massive support has been received so far from all the major players. Bjorn Akesson, born and bred in the Northern realms of the globe, tapped into trance in his beginning and lives his musical endeavor to this day. Encompassed in a high-octane pool of talent, the Future Sound of Egypt and Armada signee isn’t fearful of breaking down some boundaries. Remaining true to his signature, he is one to pioneer across the energy of trance, making him a truly deserving candidate of a round of Billboard’s Next Big Sound Top 5.

Highlighting the vision of the trance world, Bjorn’s records have moved electronic enthusiasts alongside peers like Armin Van Buuren and Aly & Fila from his iconic release schedule to his monthly run of the Bjorn Akesson Podcast. ‘Perfect Blue’ entered the music pool glowing the senses of followers, making it the track that surged the trance relationship with fans, while gaining momentous support from global DJs. 

‘Painting Pyramids’- one for the history books left a soul moving taint on the masses remaining in the minds of many as their all time favorite. With a resume of original titles to his name, the remix page was always going to be written for Bjorn, taking those perfectly balanced edits in W&W, Porter Robinson, Orjan Nilsen, Kyau & Albert and long standing alignment of Aly & Fila who he also collaborated with on FSOE250 official anthem track ‘Sand Theme’.

While on mix duties for FSOE400 compilation, Bjorn Akesson takes to the stage with the long-standing Armada crew on FSOE shows globally, ASOT, Godskitchen and more. He too has covered the festival circuit at Global Gathering, VH1 Supersonic and Buenos Aires Trance alongside fellow pioneers from Ferry Corsten to Dash Berlin. Across the clubs, Bjorn has lit up Ministry of Sound London, Ibiza’s biggest room at Privilege and Space Sharm. 

Enriching the trance music summit with every beat from the studio to the stages of worldwide events, Bjorn Akesson has taken an avid shine to the scene and embarks on an even heavier schedule into 2016.
