This is the third in our series of compilations where we hand artists a theme to work around. For this compilation, the theme was 'Referential Irony', a rather common occurence in contemporary music production. While this has produced some uncanningly beautiful music in the past years, it has also often been problematic in the sense that it obscures artists' intentions and that it presupposes an in-crowd. Seeing this is a rather broad and difficult subject, we asked 7 artists to work around this theme, providing a varying and personal experience upon the subject.

The first full-length collaboration between Burning Pyre and Canadian Rifles, “The Snipe & The Clam” encapsulates a shared sensibility and vision. Initially seen together on the Vienna Press/Vaagner compilation “A Declaration” in 2019, which was followed up with a second piece last year on Burning Pyre’s Opal Tapes debut, “United Angels”, the two artists cultivate a unique aural world with a singular voice.

Taking a contemporary yet deeply romantic approach to ambient music, “The Snipe & The Clam” showcases a blend of luscious synth melodies and harmonics, set against a heavily organic dynamic backbone. An apt representation of both artists’ methods and modus operandi, opulent glimmering drones flow with a sense of narrative, contributing a magical watercolour-like quality to the album’s eight instrumental pieces. As if lightness met the restraint of a disciplined wrist - every sharp note a pensive flap of wings across its airy background.

“The Snipe & The Clam” often feels like an emotional exercise on the stoppage of time, gliding between loving gestures and precise crescendos, delivering both a flourish of exposition and a reflection on intimate moments. A definitive summit in each respective artists’ discographies until this point, “The Snipe & The Clam” is an elegy to tenderness and finding beauty in minute details.

Mixmag ES presenta  el nuevo lanzamiento  con visión de futuro del productor keniano Slikback, que continúa con su particular modo de entender la electrónica rompiendo las reglas y mostrando una fusión de géneros sin complejos. 

Dos nuevos originales enigmáticos y dos remixes: uno de Sarmacja, nativo de su actual hogar, Polonia, que le da a Quoios una textura oscura, el otro remix del productor de Bristol, Sunun, que desarrolla a Klout en un ambiente menos presionado.

En el lado A, Quoios traza una inminente carga atmosférica que da paso a ritmos industriales con capas de voces y samples. Klout combina tonos oscuros y ritmos complejos, con un ligero guiño al ácido en los sonidos. Ambas pistas son armas de doble filo para la pista de baile.

En el lado B, el dub de Sarmacja late desde el principio, introduce una hebra de voces entusiastas y rubor cósmico. El remix de Sunun ofrece una remezcla más lenta, exploratoria e inquietante de Klout.
