Brand New World’ is the debut LP by a label that’s increasingly standing out as a primary outlet for innovative drum and bass. Introducing their first release on Dispatch, we welcome the trio Kolectiv, Dexta & Mauoq to our Dispatch LTD imprint for “The Roots EP”; presenting a selection of no-nonsense, sub-pulsated tracks in a deftly constructed package.

Comprised of four dark & brooding escapades into the abyss, built largely upon a stripped-back framework, superior levels of space allow for imagination to wonder in the lower frequencies. With each track confidently shying away from the common ‘rules’ of arrangement, we’re constantly kept guessing with each passing corner and without prompts, whether it’s a shuffle into half-time tempo at interludes, or stomping and lashing back in suddenly from an often sparse or cinematic breakdowns.

A finely tuned EP from a group of promising producers, expect to hear more from these guys on Dispatch again soon. This release is also lovingly dedicated by the crew and ourselves at the label to Emre Serter, father of one of Kolectiv’s members that sadly passed away recently. Emre, this one’s for you.

Back on his own label after a five-year hiatus, Mauoq picks up where he left off with two signature cuts. 

The two-track single kicks off with 'Big Man', a minimal, dark number featuring intricate sonic architecture based on enigmatic landscapes, infinite vocal delay, and a carefully crafted rhythm section. 'Scardub' follows the script of dub-infused storytelling, adding an extra layer of melodic delights to an already exhilarating journey through sub-driven goodness and rolling halftime grooves.

The next Mauoq Music release sees the return of the successful COMBOS series, now in its third instalment. Having featured, among others, the likes of Bredren, Dexta and Dominic Ridgway in the first two releases, Mauoq brings yet more talent to the mix with forward-thinking beat makers Arkoze, I Wannabe and Robustus all adding their signature sounds.

Proceedings start with ‘Murmurer’ which sees gifted British producer Arkoze provide some lovely noises and glitches, perfectly fitting the minimal and seemingly sparse nature of the track, until the second drop comes in with some gentle yet groovy breakbeat choppage.

The second track is ‘Loose Halves’, a more uptempo number written with Bulgarian sound wizard Robustus. Having exchanged music for a good while the two met at Sun and Bass a few years ago and decided it was time to join forces on some music. This lush track is the result of that decision and will likely mark the return of Robustus to the scene.  

To wrap up the package Ukrainian maestro I Wannabe returns to the label following his brilliant remix work on vinyl release MQM010. This time he provides some punchy drum sounds and lovely textures for the track ‘Bitclan’, a steppa riddim that’s already created some damage on various dancefloors.

A little insight:

"A track I started about 4 years ago, at a time when I hadn’t had any release out yet. I did a little bit more work on it the following summer then left it for 3 years. But I’m known for not throwing anything away ever, so things are bound to pop back up again at some point! This is exactly what happened with this one. At the beginning of this year I opened the project again and finished the tune in a few sessions. The vibe was very much what I had in mind for the EP with a slightly more uptempo feel to it, which I thought it would benefit the release."

The incredible talent of Hobzee (one half of Silent Dust, with releases on 31 Records, Warm Communications and more) takes care of remix duties for Caucciù on the flip side, turning the minimal stripped-back original tune into a full-on steppa number featuring a solid rhythmic drive and finely placed bass stabs, all with a pinch of old school feel to it.

Closing things off for 'Combos#1' is a smooth downtempo piece named ‘DUNES', carefully put together alongside experimental Romanian producer https://soundcloud.com/dj_dyl2 (past releases including Rawganics, Dubkraft and Nord Label among many others) who is usually appreciated for his minimal deepness and layered darkness, but in this occasion he brought to the game a gorgeous yet unexpected melodic structure which called for a simple and punchy beat to make this the perfect wrap-up to a fine display of combined musical artistry.

For the fifth release on Mauoq Music, I’ve gone into the studio on my own and I've come out with a four-tracks EP that is definitely more uptempo than the previous releases on the label. 

All 4 tracks stem from one very inspired and special session I had with my Moog last year - I hit record and started making love with the machine. The offspring were loads of lovely noises, from which I extrapolated four bass lines and everything else evolved from there over time. 

The title track ‘Fabricate’ opens up the EP in full force with a punchy steppa drum work intro, to which an over-thumping bassline follows up, alongside wobbly bass noises coming in and out, matching meticulously with the low end movements underneath. The slightly unusual structure also allows for three drops in the tune, which gives it an extra apex and additional overall dynamics.

The third instalment in the Absys Records' 12” series sees a return to prominence for the Dublin-based label with a triumvirate of styles from across the spectrum of drum & bass.
