HIP 67522 b is a Jupiter-sized exoplanet orbiting its young, energetic host star in just one Earth week, placing it extremely close to the stellar surface. This proximity generates a strong magnetic interaction that triggers powerful stellar flares along the star’s magnetic field lines. The resulting bursts of high-energy radiation and stellar wind erode the planet’s atmosphere at an accelerated rate. This phenomenon has been dubbed a “planet with a death wish” because the planet’s orbit actively induces conditions that threaten its own survival, offering a striking example of a celestial body causing its own destruction.
