SCI030 – Bungle – Forms EP

Back once again with another dancefloor-oriented drum&bass release on Scientific. This time it’s by a familiar face on the label: Sao Paolo/Brazil based producer Bungle. One thing we know for certain: no matter which genre Andre Sobota (which is his real name and music alias under which he releases house music and downtempo) sets his mind to, he always delivers! This release is definitely no exception. 

The EP starts with “Forms”, a brilliant and well-balanced combination of snappy 808 influenced drums, deep bassline, trancey pads and catchy melodies. The buildup and drive in this tune is insane! “Step One” on the other hand has more of a breakbeat type of feel. Spoiler alert: the amens coming in at 2:20 are totally unexpected, yet so rewarding! A guaranteed killer on the dancefloor. Speaking of which, “Open Field” is another amen-based, phat-sounding dancefloor smasher that will blow you away. The EP ends with the bass-heavy remix of Bungle’s legendary “Bad Discipline” tune, released earlier on Scientific’s Techmosphere series, by fellow Brazilian producer L-Side.

With aspirations of crafting a sequel LP to then be released on Skylab Recordings, this episode promises to be just the beginning. Mav Scientific @ Deep Science Radio 005 | Astronaut on the Decks | Deep House Mix | Tech House Mix

Yes yes! Back again with another oldschool 90s atmospheric drum and bass mix, this time mixed by yours truly (Mav Scientific). In this session we go way back to my favorite era in DnB, when I was just a young kid that started out as a drum&bass producer and dnb DJ. Many of the tracks in this mix influenced me greatly over the years for my own music productions and I'm thankful to have grown up in such a special era within drum&bass. These were the days when the deeper atmospheric sub-genre of dnb really kicked off, mainly due to the influence of record labels such as Good Looking Records and Moving Shadow. Iconic releases and mixes such as the Progression Sessions series by the likes of LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad, Blame & MC DRS, etc dominated drum and bass back in those days and will forever hold a special place in my heart ❤️

This video is dedicated to MC Conrad, who sadly passed away earlier this week (at the time of publishing this mix). A true legend to his craft, he was a major influence in my life and will never be forgotten. RIP buddy! 🙏 You'll always be my hero.

ps: this mix was recorded during a Scientific Radio chillout recording session together with Mobility in my studio (which is why at some points you'll see them entering the frame 🙂 My kids also paid me an unexpected visit during this recording and provided some good dance moves throughout the video lol 😂

ps2: there's some minor video glitches here and there throughout the video, which sadly couldn't be avoided so please bare with me.

SCI025 – Chilling on the Couch .03 LP

The 25th release on Scientific is the third part of the “Chilling on the Couch” series, which stands for deep, atmospheric, experimental music around the 170bpm mark. 

This time Scientific brings you 15 chilled out tracks, starting with some tunes that have an experimental, deep drum&bass vibe to them, such as Microfunk Crew (Bop & Oak)’s remix of Naibu’s “Fighting for Attention” track that was released on Naibu’s “Case Study LP”, another release on Scientific. Mav’s “From here to Eternity”, for which he teamed up with newcomer Sargon Empire, as well as Brazil’s legendary Bungle with his tune “Concession”, Parhelia’s “Life for Saturn”, Eissi’s “Star”, both Marso & Gala’s “Attraction” and “Untruth” and mSdoS & dBase’s collab “Greek Oracles” are other great examples of this.

The other half of the album edges more towards a combination of soothing ambient music, downtempo/triphop vibes and here and there some deep dubstep (deepstep/chillstep) influences. You will hear this in Halo’s 2 tracks “A few days without Darkness” and “E X I T” that have a bit of a Massive Attack kind of vibe, but also in Physical Illusion’s “Ascent to Orbit”, Readsense & FlashbackFM’s “Take me way”, Parhelia’s “Over a fields of Light” and Seathasky’s “Beauty made in Small Pieces”.
All in all, this album is a pure trip, perfect for those that like to explore the deep realms of space. We hope you like it!

Having made their first appearance on Scientific Records in 2017 with a brilliant remix of Naibu’s epic “Turn Me Down” track, released on the “Case Study remix EP”, Hiddenwave immediately set a name for themselves. The Russian duo is now back with their long-awaited debut album “Noir”. The album kicks off with a brilliant, deep and fast-paced drum&bass track sharing the same name as the album title, followed up by legendary Future Engineers’ heavy remix of “Kick”. “Voices” is another great, deep drum&bass track that will definitely move your feet on the dancefloor. From the next track “Up All Night” all the way through to the last track on the album called “Visualise”, Hiddenwave takes the listener onto an extensive journey through outer space, featuring a combination of complex, experimental rhythm work, combined with deep synth melodies, heavy basses and trippy vocals. 25 tracks on one album isn’t your average LP. It took a while to make, but finally it’s here: Techmosphere .03 LP, the 3rd edition of the dancefloor oriented atmospheric drum&bass series on Scientific Records. The 6-track vinyl sampler includes 3 brilliant solo tunes by the likes of Silence Groove, Bungle an DJ Trax, as well as 3 remixes – Random Movement’s remix of Actraiser’s “Starsigns”, Electrosoul System’s remix of Naibu’s “Clouds” and Silence Groove’s remix of Mav’s “Northern Light”. 

The digital release of the album features 19 (!) other tracks, bringing the total of tracks to 25.
