My names Brandon, I’m 23. 

At 17, I graduated high school early to join the marines. It was my dream for as long as I could remember. The day I became a marine, I realized the first of many lessons. It’s not the destination that counts or brings us fulfillment. It’s the journey along the way, and the way we choose to look at it. I fulfilled my duties to my country to the best of my ability, and always maintained near perfect performance and operation. 

When I got out of the service in January of 2013, I was really lost and confused. I had come from a dream, to a job, with people that would, did, and still will die for me without thinking twice. Surrounded by people who worked together and had each other’s back in every aspect of life. As I stepped into the world, those things were gone. I was surrounded by people who worked to better only themselves and their path; throwing others aside to better their career, finances, success rates. I watched as friends sacrificed relationships, hope, and love. Traded them for numbers, a title, or 15 minutes of fame. I grew up idolizing people like Martin Luther King, Socrates, Jesus, Buddha, Nikola Tesla, and Viktor Shauberger. But found society putting Hollywood stars, TV show characters on a pedestal, idolizing people that 50 years ago, would have been examples of what not to be.

So I went on the streets, homeless, and travelled to almost every state trying to help as many people as I could. All while trying to figure out where my place was in this new environment. I felt surrounded by hate, division, discrimination, and judgment. I watched teens and my peers make videos of others misfortunes go viral, and the separation of humanity from the connection to nature we once adored. 

I worked on farms, in warehouses, started a company to tighten local communities together and support local small business. I travelled all over, and went to every state except Alaska. I made music, artwork, and crafts for anyone that could find a little connected to the consciousness that was inside them. 

Every step, every stop, I had found myself a little more. I found the things I love to do, I found the beauty in the world that once seemed so dark, and found the beautiful conscious beings that lies within each of us. And I realized, that those things; all of us, all of it, is in me too. I found myself, my happiness, in each one of you. 

From that day forward I realized that everything I did, every day, every minute, was a choice. That the intentions I set at the beginning of each day, and the way I approached my life, dictated whether I felt lost, or found. Whether I failed, or succeeded. It was the difference between suffering, and happiness. 

I don’t know for fact anything. For me, knowledge is of the mind; it can be learned and shared. But wisdom is of the heart, it takes what you know in your mind and who you are and applies it to what you do. In every thing that you do.

I can not say how my presence will make things more this or more that. But, I do know I have a big heart, a beautiful mind, and that I can help any person find meaning, purpose, and hope in themselves.

Dirtwire is a traveler’s collage of Earth-borne instruments and electronic sounds foraged from Electric Forest to the mountains of Tuva. From their home on the west coast of the United States to far-flung destinations all over the world, these troubadours are welcomed for speaking the most unifying language there is: music.

Every live set is a magician’s surprise show, an invitation to experience instruments that are usually heard only as samples in electronic music. It is a celebration of the art of the instrument, not just the sound you can record from it. Future revival, swamptronica, spaghetti-step, electro-twang — whatever you call Dirtwire’s music, what matters is that you can dance to it, as sure as a lizard dances in the desert.
