Rose Holland is a Bristol-based producer, vocalist, and DJ creating a unique blend of vocal-led bass music. Honing her craft as Dutchie since 2017, this chapter marks a defining shift in her musical journey as she embraces her new alias and joins the Faux Poly family with her new Daybreak EP. Holland’s productions blend heavy-hitting lows with rich, layered vocals infused with field recordings and a wide range of influences. The result is a genre-blurring, emotionally resonant style that’s distinctly her own.

With recent sets  at Document Bristol, Shambala, Lost Horizon and a monthly show on SWU FM, her high energy DJ sets fuse bass-heavy breaks with leftfield UK bass, leading to a busy summer of shows at Boomtown, We Out Here and Glastonbury. Since releasing a two-tracker and a single in 2024, Rose has followed up with a remix EP featuring Faux Poly’s own Danny Goliger, plus remixes for Marla Kether and Illiterate. With ongoing support from BBC Radio 1, 6Music, Rinse FM, Jazz FM and more, Holland is quickly carving out a distinctive space in the cross-genre electronic landscape with her heady fusion of soulful bass music.

Words from Rose:
This EP explores field recordings (“Dawn” was originally made exclusively from found sounds), texture, and a continuation of experimenting with fusing my vocals with my production in creative and fun ways. 

The tracks are a mix of new and old ideas - yet somehow the lyrical themes ended up combining to express my general frustration at misogynistic behaviour and the extra barriers that exist for women working in the music industry - sparked by some of my experiences working as a live sound engineer. The whole project has been a cathartic and enjoyable process of creating something good out of less than ideal situations and I hope it can inspire and motivate women in music to keep doing their thing and men to re-asses their behaviour.

A curated series where we commission artists to make an hour long mix of whatever inspires them to experiment, produce, play out and what they listen to.

"This mix reflects back on the past year of personal releases, including tracks from the ‘Beneath the Surface Remixed’ EPs and my entry for the Monkeytown 10 Year Anniversary Compilation. In keeping with the Mesh theme, a collaboration between myself and Max Cooper (that could be seen as the start of my journey to this label) sits alongside music that’s inspired me throughout the lockdown period. From abstract and ambient to driving, epic techno, I had these tunes turned up loud in the studio and imagined what it would feel like to play this set in a club. Max Cooper is an electronic composer, multi-disciplinary artist, music label founder and former scientist who has carved out a unique space in music and visual art.

He holds a PhD in computational biology at the same time as being the first contemporary electronic musician to perform at the ancient Acropolis theatre in Athens and one of the first clutch of musicians to produce in Dolby Atmos.

Cooper has enquired for over 15 years through music, collaborations, and his label Mesh, to explore the intersections between the arts and sciences with installations, performances, immersive experiences, online media, music videos and live events.  Anchored throughout is his emotive approach, connecting how ideas and forms feel, in a manner accessible to us all. 
 
As an artist synonymous with the evolution of club culture, Cooper honed his craft as a DJ with a 10 year residency at legendary Midlands techno event Firefly where he formed a foundational relationship with Architecture Social Club, with whom he still collaborates on extravagant immersive installations.

"I want to encourage the acceptance of electronic music as an art form like any other. Bringing electronic music and abstract audio-visual projects into concert halls, museums and galleries is liberating - the art world opens up doors to communicate in ways that aren’t possible elsewhere."
  
Pivoting from computational biology to electronic music might not seem like the most natural career transition, but for Cooper the commonalities are obvious:
 
"In both fields, you're in a sense, free. Free from the limits of living systems, free from the limits of corporeal sound. The only constraints are in your mind."
