RISE is celebrating! We took the next step and finally became a label: RISE MUSIC. So this month the RISE head honcho himself took over the radioshow duties: Hyenah. 
Oh, there is one more reason to celebrate. We are going monthly now at Watergate. The July edition is happening on the 22nd and is featuring the following artists: Djeff Afrozila, Floyd Lavine, Hyenah, David Mayer, Dede and Minco

Wind Horse Records is elated to announce a new EP - Neon Grooves. This is the 33rd EP by Wind Horse Records and the inspiration behind it has been taken from a label showcase that happened in Goa in December 2016. In an effort to spread quality house music across India, the label launched a party called the ‘The Wind Horse Experience’ and the ‘Neon Grooves’ edition in Goa was the first time they had organized an event such as this. The label’s party soon became the place for all house music lovers, especially those searching for a more groovy, funky, and ethnic vibe, complimented of course by Goan sunsets and starry nights. Wind Horse were were thrilled to see the reaction of people to their sound given that Goa is more known for a harder vibe. The line up consisted of DJs that have produced music for Wind Horse over the years and a couple of international guests. After the success of ‘Neon Grooves’ Wind Horse decided to make an EP around this party to remember the magical moment and keep the memory alive. The label invited the artists that performed at the party to borrow from the energy cultivated then and create a beautiful journey to embark on the now.

The EP opens with the dutch maestro Thee J Johanz and his remix of “Agama” by Umeme. A real intricate work of art here with its afro vocal vibe weaved into more raw analog elements that evolve and alternate in the midst of a drum-tastic, exotic, and tribal-influenced disco bomb. “Neon Afro” by Hamza goes deeper into the tropics with the thrilling combination of percussion and drums with a sprinkling of sweet melodic uplifting elements, teleporting the listener to a sunny beach. “Khawatta Ceremony” by Farhan Rehman (Mumbai) and Stalvart John (Bangalore) is a bit harder, a bit darker. This synth-track will have the dance floor grooving with its refreshing vocals and echoey chord progressions. “Antares” (also the name of the place Wind Horse hosted Neon Grooves in Goa) by Troja (Mumbai) is a change of tempo with a beautiful, ethereal sort of sound formed by warm Indian ethnic instruments and meditative melodies. Oma (Delhi) turns his track up with “One Shade Brighter”. A happy bouncy bass with solid vocals teleports the listener back to the beach party, but with a deeper edge. “Whisky Flask” by Nigel Perera (Sri Lanka) changes up the beat with a groovy number consisting of beautiful chords and twisted sounds, the perfect beach-side sunset tune. To end the journey, Priyesh Patil (Mumbai) brings “Vagabond” with smooth beats and beautiful sax samples and a deep bass to guide the floor right into the horizon.

After three years of work and research, BIG O from Ivory
Coast has decided to release the compilation Akwaba* (Africa Soul). This Compilation of Unique, Prolific almost ancestral songs have been heard by several generations of African’s. Yet they still are practically unknown to people in Europe, South America, Asia, North America, or the younger generation living in Western Europe.
The songs of Akwaba are from the 70’s and the beginning of the 80’s they can
be compared to the North American Soul of the seventies, all the songs are
from Nigeria, Ghana, Benin and the Ivory Coast.
With Different artists like Franco from Zaire, the late Prince Nico Mbarga
and his famous Rocafil Jazz (the Rocafil were a pair of high length stiletto shoes like the
Drag queen’s wear) from Nigeria, the late Ernesto Djedje from The Ivory Coast,
Etc.
BIG Odecided to put together a compilation of tracks from a true Africans point of view, he felt that there were a lot of West European compilations that Mentioned the term Afro-Beat, but where was the Afro side in these records?
All of the songs of Akwaba can be listen to by all music lovers worldwide like Producers,Singers, Diggers, African music lovers, etc. when you listen to this album you can here all the African influences in all genres of music (house,
Drum & bass, rap, r&b)
What you have here are some classics of the African community, and the older generation will remember these songs and cherish them as if they were delicate “souvenirs” of a time past. This is a celebration to the parents all around the world before Kofi Olomide, Youssou N’Dour or Femi Kuti, African music was big, never forget that…

Fatigué de voir, des européens et américains, utilisés les termes afro et afro-beat à tout va, le dj, journaliste et digger Big O décide de faire découvrir, les vraies perles musicales rares et inexploitées de l’Afrique de l’Ouest. 

Après des recherches de disques afro à travers les USA, le Japon et l’Europe, dj Akan, ne découvrit rien de spécial, mis à part quelques sites internets avec quelques 33T et maxi 45T mais sans réel travail de recherche sur les artistes et les titres.

Comme on le dit souvent « on n’est jamais mieux servi que par soi même », il décide de fouiner et d’approfondir, le travail de diggin’ (recherche de vieux vinyles) des disques de la famille, il se retrouve avec une collection de 300 disques qui sont de véritables collectors.

Pendant quatre ans, il sélectionne les meilleurs titres, essaie de trouver les propriétaires des masters, un travail ardu, qui s’avère vite être inutile.

Il compile une cinquantaine de titres prêts à connaître une seconde jeunesse enregistrés par des artistes originaires de la Cote D’Ivoire, Bénin, Ghana, Nigeria ou Congo.  

Comme le nigérian Prince Nico Mbarga qui reste le plus gros vendeur de disques en Afrique avec entre dix et trente millions d’exemplaires vendus de son album « Sweet Mother », Ernesto Djedje le roi du Ziglibiti, un des artistes majeures des années soixante dix en Côte d’Ivoire tous les deux disparus ; Sonny Okosun, très inspiré par le jazz ou Victor Uwaifo avec son style funky et reggae qui n’ont rien à envier à un Fela davantage reconnu en Europe. Tous ces artistes  sont la preuve de la vitalité et de la créativité musicale lors de cette période faste mais très méconnu en Europe et aux USA.

BIG O décide de sortir les deux premiers volumes de la série AKWABA, qui veux dire bienvenue en langage Akan.

Ce projet musical est aussi pédagogique, il a pour but de montrer la vraie qualité des productions de ces années phares où existait un son africain, en provenance du Nigeria ou Ghana, qui disposaient de vrais studios et d’ingénieurs capables de rivaliser avec les meilleurs occidentaux.  

Akwaba est un cocktail musical qui privilégie l’essence africaine avec ses dialectes, ses histoires d’amour hors du commun, ses collectifs de musiciens et des arrangements uniques saupoudrés d’influences américaines (soul, jazz ou funk). 

Bienvenue en Afrique, Bienvenue au vrai son Afro Soul, Bienvenue aux mélomanes du monde entier et un grand Akwaba aux architectes sonores du vrai son groove africain…

This week's guest is no stranger to the Southern California house and techno scene. Having come together in San Diego this duo hit the scene strong after a debut performance at The Standard back in 2011. From there it has been no looking back as they have made waves across the world and become a premiere name in underground house and techno.  Having held residencies in Ibiza and Miami in addition to touring schedules that have taken them from Desert Hearts to Tulum to Switzerland and places in between. In addition to a healthy touring schedule they have a rigorous production ethic that has seen them release with top labels such as Get Physical, Bedrock, Crosstown Rebels and so many more. I feel like we are just scratching the surface of what to expect from these guys and am happy to share this mix with you all this week.
