Everyone knows what L Plus can do. If you're not quite with the programme yet, we're talking expertly-designed layers of synth, thousand-horsepower basslines and iron fist drums. All that, constructed with a rare combination of elegant musicality and a strictly party-hyping attitude. Got that now? OK, let's get into this.

“Speed of Light” goes first, setting the scene with a typically wide-open cosmic intro. Melodic arpeggiated figures filter in and around their own reverb, until shocked into submission by the sudden arrival of an insistent bass tone marking out the half-beats. This double-time assault builds to a drop which shows the dancefloor exactly what L Plus is up to. He's taken a classic walking bass pattern and used subtle modulations and precision-engineered drum sounds to make every offbeat pop and crackle with its own extra burst of energy. Simultaneously a production masterclass and a tune to spark the laziest rave into action.

Then “Carbon” turns the page to the next chapter of the same story. Going straight in with the bass pattern right from the top, this one shares DNA with some of the funkier techstep from around the turn of the millennium. It's all about the targeted deployment of builds and fills which somehow continue to deliver a new surge of high-power bass and drum each and every time. With only a few perfectly-crafted elements in play, L Plus manages to conjure up a sound that's contemporary yet classic. This is 2014 dance music, but made by a true head that recognises the heritage.

So this is where L Plus shows a new facet to his sound. As well as delivering stadium-size harmonies and heart-palpitating builds, he can also take things a shade rawer and provide some rhythm-section funk too. And he can do that without sacrificing any of the musicality or production quality he's known for. With another weapon in his armoury, this Bratislavan badman's even more dangerous.

15 Years of Technique – Summer Selection Album

It's sunshine time again. The time when we need a new D&B soundtrack to score our festivals, carnivals, pool parties and barbecues. And you'd struggle to find anyone better qualified to curate that soundtrack than Technique's bosses Drumsound & Bassline Smith. Just a quick glance at their immense back catalogue of anthemic releases or their packed international bookings diary is enough to demonstrate that they know exactly how to bring those summertime vibes.

Things kick off in suitably monumental fashion with a cut from the head honchos themselves, “I Need Somebody”. If you were looking out from a festival stage at a sea of excited hands in the air, this tune's searing vocal hook and unrelenting waves of bass would suit that scene perfectly. And, of course, this album contains a lethal dosage of similarly colossal tracks. For example, MaxNRG enlists a quirky vocal from Marianna to boost the hype-levels on “Headshot” and recent signing Kronology delivers the driving and euphoric “Untouchable”. Plus, there are some sizeable contributions to the big-room roll call from a few names you won't have seen on Technique before, like Oder's “Closer” and T-Phonic & Deadman's “Show Me the Way”.

But summer's not all about the shades-on daytime raving, we need some choice sunset material too for when things get a little darker. Document One and Spectrem exemplify this beautifully with the laid-back and jazzy “Falling” and the Kyphosis-laced “Fade” respectively. Helsinki's liquid maestros LAOS pass through to drop “City Lights” and “Belong”, and Tantrum Desire treats us to the effervescent “Sea Breeze”. For when things get darker still, there are tracks like the technoid, percussive world-unto-itself of Salaryman & Dark Machine's “Night Shift”. Guys like Conspire and Brian Brainstorm bring some full-on jungle, and the whole compilation is peppered with alternative sounds like Digital's dub workout “Groove Together”.

The thirty-one tracks here represent a cross-section of the mighty, multi-stranded, multi-form D&B scene and what it can do for summer 2015. There are names you'll know and names you might not know yet. There are huge mainstream anthems and shadow-bound subtleties. There are tunes for midday and tunes for four in the morning. And for four in the afternoon the next day. Ultimately, this isn't the sound of the summer, this is all the many different sounds of the summer put together on one album. So, the soundtrack's sorted, time to go out and have a summertime that's worthy of it!

The Prototypes - Pale Blue Dot (Calyx & TeeBee Remix) [Friction Fire BBC Radio 1]

True to their self prophetic genre-less guise of anything and everything between 110-174 bpm, the last 6 months have seen Delta Heavy filling in the gap between their last Ram release and new EP 'Down The Rabbit Hole' with the completion of extensive tours of Australia, USA, Canada & Europe as well as churning out an array of multi genre remixes for Emalkay, Adam F, The Fixers and a speaker destroying remix of Maverick Sabre’s ‘Used To Have It All’. The latter has been hailed with continuous support from nearly every DJ at Radio 1 and has been championed by Annie Mac on her pivotal Friday night show for 5 weeks and counting, while their recent remix of Rita Ora's 'R.I.P' has dominated airwaves and dance floors globally. By most producers schedules, this would seem enough for the first few months of the year, but arguably their most significant move to date came in the form of their rework of Nero’s ‘Must Be The Feeling.’ An infectious 110bpm anthem that was given away by Nero and Delta Heavy for free, it so far has had over 130,000 downloads, over 2 million views on UKFMusic alone and has undoubtedly confirmed Delta Heavy’s place at the top table of bass music.

Following on from their last release was no easy task.  'Overkill / Hold Me' held simultaneous number 1 spots on Trackitdown drum and bass and dubstep charts with 'Hold Me' named by Skream and Benga as one of their 'Drops of 2011'.  The official video for 'Hold Me' has racked up 2.5 million views and to date Delta Heavy are the only artists apart from Knife Party to have had releases on all UKF YouTube channels. 

With their most ambitious project to date Delta Heavy invite you to follow them 'Down The Rabbit Hole' into a place where a myriad of styles, genres and influences are merged into one another and combine effortlessly to create 6 hard-hitting original tracks.

The lead track of the EP 'Get By' throws the listener back to the turn of the century when UK garage ruled the charts.  Pitched up saccharine vocals and bouncy 2 step beats are juxtaposed with a thumping dubstep switch that catapults the dance floor straight back in 2012.  Their own 174 bpm remix sees more 90s nostalgia twisted into their trademark pounding drum and bass as the vocal sits on twinkling rave pianos and a reese bassline that builds to a thundering drop.

'End of Days' sees Delta Heavy in more familiar territory.  A staple of Andy C sets in recent months, a tense and apocalyptic intro rises through grinding alarm stabs and an urgent guitar riff towards an unrelenting wall of searing synths and bass.  In a similar vein 'Turbine' retains the dystopian, mechanical mood whilst combining more traditional jungle ingredients, rugged breakbeats and a ripping hoover lead.  'Make It Rain' keeps the tempo at 174 bpm but flips the genre on its head with a funky, swaggering take on the half time style.

'Demons' picks up from where 'Hold Me' left off, balancing light and shade expertly as a tropical intro of steel drums and imploring vocals cascade into an explosive conclusion.  

Delta Heavy - Get By (Delta 174 Mix)

A remix of Maduk's 'Colours' and Pendulum's iconic 'Propane Nightmares'. Comprises the instrumental and original mix of both, and an additional VIP mix of Propane Nightmares. No stems made available, so a 2 hour raw mashup to celebrate Maduk and Pendulum's appearance at Liquicity Festival 2019.
