Maxim Panfilo – violinist, conductor. Founder of PanfRecords music recording studio. One of the pioneers of modern orchestral recording method where all scores are recorded on acoustic instruments by a single person and then assembled into one entity guided by the idea of interpretation.
Maxim Panfilo was born on 22.07.1954 in Leningrad (USSR) in the family of professional musicians. He started studying music under the guidance of his father Victor Panfilo who played a key role in the musical upbringing of the future violinist. In 1979 Maxim Panfilo graduated from the prestigious Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg State Conservatory (Leningrad Conservatory) from the class of professor Boris Gutnikov. In 1980 he continued his professional career in Zaporizhia, Ukraine, where he founded a Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. The Chamber Orchestra (The Early Music Ensemble) quickly became a phenomenon in the cultural life of the city performing for full houses. Such interest and appreciation from the audience was unprecedented in the musical history of Zaporizhia. The creative emphasis of the ensemble was put to works of composers of the Baroque era. Most of these musical pieces were performed in Zaporizhia for the first time. Throughout the 80s the ensemble continued to show creative growth and to enrich the cultural life of the city. At that time the trends of “perestroika” initiated by Mikhail Gorbachev allowed the musician to explore also other alternatives and in 1991 together with his family Maxim Panfilo moved to Finland where he worked as a violin teacher until 2020. Starting from 2020 he continues to explore new musical trends based on digital technologies.
Work in Finland opened up new musical horizons.
In 2010 Maxim Panfilo founded PanfRecords recording studio together with his wife, awarded pianist Marina Kurusova-Panfilo. Since then PanfRecords studio remains to be a creative workshop for the musicians. 
Along with performing and teaching activities one of the most significant stages in the creative biography of Maxim Panfilo has been project “Triptych”. Consisting of three published CDs: I - Violin Pieces; II - Vivaldi The Seasons; III - Bach Violin Concertos “Triptych” combines unique working methods with modern technologies. All orchestral scores of each composition were played and recorded personally by Maxim Panfilo on authentic acoustic instruments. These recordings were then assembled into one entity guided by the idea of interpretation. This means that from the first note up to mastering the whole artwork was made by a single person and only at the mastering stage a professional sound engineer was connected to the process. This way of recording and bringing a musical piece together gives each voice full transparency and a subtle outlining - we can hear and almost “see” the music in 3D projection as if we were holding the entire composition on the palms of our hands. A rare conductor has the ability to hear and interpret music in a similar way as the musician who played, recorded and experienced every score of each of the instruments in person. Such “existence” inside of music radically changes often stereotypical perceptions and brings to life fresh, unorthodox and often bold interpretations of the composition. The orchestral works of “Triptych” presents us with a unique opportunity to hear more detailed palette of every voice which is often impossible when a composition is recorded in a traditional way.
Bringing this project to life took over 10 years in collaboration with Vladimir Kirikov, a musician and a sound engineer from Prague, Czech Republic. 
Works accompanied by piano were recorded together with pianist Marina Kurusova-Panfilo.
