Dunno if it was intentional, but I love how the detuned parts make the in-tune parts feel more forceful. There was this OC Remix, "Smoke and Clouds," that sort of futzed around for half the song with discordant melodies and rhythms and then all at once busted out a strong, clear melody out of nowhere, and the impact was huge. I wish more songs did stuff like that.
