It seems that the usefulness of polyrhythms has always been questioned. It’s as if musicians are waiting for a time period when polyrhythms will become acceptable to use other than only for special occasions. The goal for this show is to demonstrate that it is not only possible, but advantageous to have a nearly constant flow of polyrhythms from beginning to end.

The show has a safe structure of an Intro/Opener, Ballad, Drum Break, and Closer. The music begins by building slowly and indecisively, attempting several styles before establishing a full decision towards the end of the Opener. Pit helps uncover a unique, emotional melody. Drum Break is packed with varying styles and is very musically expressive. As with the Intro, the Closer starts with some captivating layers. Repeated and modified several times during the Closer is that same curious melody found in the Ballad. The energy of the group is continually increased proven by the tempo markings, the number of “f’s” on the page, and the amount of ink per square inch.

It can be difficult for one to express their deep fascination with the universe. Look up into the sky with a naked eye at night, and the desire to be there in one of the infinitely numerous untouched worlds is overwhelming. Each of three movements of this vibraphone solo expresses a different stage of excitement for the universe. A simple idea is evolved and expanded upon throughout the piece. The first movement is explorative, the second adventurous, and the final, unleashing and resolving. The very end ties back into the initial emotion. Written for 4-mallets. Available for 3 and 4-octave vibraphone.

A musical duet? Or an actual romantic (or even just friendly) duet between two individuals; vibraphone and marimba. The story is classic. Throughout the piece, rhythms and melodies of both instruments compete with, yet complete each other. There is conflict and resolution like any great story. It's a musical presentation of a real-life relationship.

A musical journey from sunset to sunrise! In this gently pop-oriented concert ensemble, players are challenged by sensitive dynamics and timing demands. A highly intricate drumset part along-side with a bass guitar part make this piece challenge the guidelines of most school ensemble contests. Many different dark and relaxed musical styles are expressed and fluidly transitioned together into a story about the night. All players in the ensemble are in for a jamming musical experience which is sure to set the mood for any performance. 

Instrumentation (9 Players): 
Glockenspiel, Xylophone, Standard Marimba, Standard Vibraphone (w/ Cello bow), Timpani, Bass guitar, Drumset (w/ 2 Toms, Hi-hat, Ride, 2 Crashes, China and Splash), Chimes, Rainstick, Concert bass drum, 2 Congas, Triangle, Wind chimes, 2 Suspended cymbals, and Metal canister shaker.

Dusk to Dawn - Percussion Ensemble

I seriously only spent a little more than 2 hours arranging this. What made it so fast is that I used a midi file from "Ocarina of Time", and modified what was there. The harp/vibraphone fill in the beginning, I had to do by ear though, since I couldn't find a midi that included it. 

I was debating whether or not to add in the Latin groove, but I thought it just felt great that way. it gives it a little uniqueness as well, and makes it easy to listen to. The ending, I wasn't sure how to do. I didn't want to change the music in any way, like make a resolution, so I mimicked the midi by fading with dynamics.
